We are seeing what I had hoped we would get when Lyons took over - actions ready to go by virtue of knowing what you want from the moment of hiring and people you know and can trust to be able to implement the actions from Day One. This is how successful business CEO's do it - not a day wasted on gearing up, interviewing candidates, enriching slow motion consultants.

I was hoping that Lyons would have followed this well-known and accepted succession strategy. Despite all the hype about his being grounded in business methods, it doesn't appear that he has followed this path.

If any Cal Chancellor could cut through the University bureaucracy and "get things done", it would be Lyons, with his professional background in entrepreneurship. I suspect it is just too hard to run the campus as if it were a private business. I also suspect that a lot of the faculty wishes the new Chancellor was a renowned Chaucer scholar, famous philosopher or theoretical mathematician, rather than a business guy.

My guess is, he wants to placate all the stakeholders, rather than come in ruffling feathers. He really does have a lot on his plate besides athletics.

If I were betting (glad I'm not though), I would guess he makes an AD change in 3-5 months, if he can afford to do so.

I think you meant this as sarcasm, but it's not especially clear. I have no idea what succession strategy is, but I didn't go to business school. I suppose I could look it up, but I'd have to care enough to do so. I don't..

It is simple, but not obvious. MAGA is much more than a political mindset, but rather a firm belief in how institutions should be run. From the top, for the good of all, who count.

Placate = weak. Ruffle = weak. A third approach is to know what you want to do and do it. I imagine that the Cal admin is bloated, slow and expensive. If this is true, he would have known it when he took over and should have had a plan for fixing it. Easy to say, I know, since faculty often think they can approve or disapprove anything that remotely comes near to them, but he would know that going in.

The key, in our case, would be the Controller's Office. That's where the operational power lies.
