Should A and AA leagues even be considered.

The Big 2 of the SEC and B1G are flexing their muscles. They have control of the CFP. They are doing what they can to effectively be the new Super League. They will have more autobids. Change the seeding process. Control the revenue disbursements from the CFP. They already steer more money to their conferences and having more bids means more money.

College football has always been a eat your competition game. Now all gloves are off. What they are doing is really bad for the game. It is the opposite of competition. They along with the Big 12 and ACC are also working to change the guidance on roster size, transfers, NIL and enforcement. Essentially creating a Super League without having to actually call it that.

These 2 leagues are working toward scheduling agreements as well. They hope to hold games between the 2 conferences to create more great TV games for ESPN/Fox so the money train rolls on. So they want autobids so a loss out of conference won't cost the league a bid or 2.

This arrangement will force the Big 12 and the ACC to look at alternatives to try and stay relevant. The ACC already is looking at success and brand initiatives. Revamping their conference championship game and using the Notre Dame alliance for more competitive games to enhance TV ratings. Less ND games against BC or Cal and more against FSU, Miami and Clemson.

I think the leverage play the SEC and B1G are utilizing could force a complete realignment of P4 football. Not now but not far off either. The House settlement is a huge pressure point. Several schools will not be able to stay in the P4 if the revenues are not increased. Since the total revenues are unlikely to go up as much as needed a reduction of programs in the P4 seems more likely. If Cal wants to stay a P4 team they will need to win now and get their house in order. This holds true for many schools.

10 years ago I thought the NCAA's purpose was to regulate player and school interactions. I didn't think the NCAA was needed to regulate the conferences.

The NCAA should have an independent committee who has final authority with no conference affiliations and whose mission is fairness & sportsmanship--with revenue being beholden to that mission. Call me an idealist, but I am tired of the wall to wall partisan/financially-driven corruption everywhere.

At this point, there are 34 SEC and B1G teams. Any ultimate super league will have to include Notre Dame.

So depending on what appetite media has, am guessing we'll stop at 40-48 schools.

That leaves approx 5-13 teams of the remaining P4 teams with a chance to get in, if they want to AND are willing to commit what it takes to be in the Super league.

I know there will be some who will want to list half the SEC and B1G schools as not as deserving / important as Cal, but the reality is the traditional bottom feeding programs of those 2 conferences are already IN the true P2 conferences.

I think it's a much more difficult process for conference programs to push out existing members - but maybe a couple of the bottom programs eventually get culled to open up a few more spots.

All this to say Cal really needs to win now and prove it can attract enough eyeballs that being in a top 5 media market matters enough to warrant inclusion.

We're in an existential battle in the next 2-3 years to prove we belong in the 10-15 programs not yet in the SEC or B1G to be included.

The Ayn Rand religion of selfishness acolytes (with enabling Supreme Court decisions) have successfully removed regulation and even self-regulation of sports, business, economics, politics, government, the environment, public discourse…. In every case their selfishness and zeal to advance their individual interests will destroy the very ecosystems that allowed for their success in the first place. College football is just one of the institutions being destroyed by the most powerful within it, people who seem unable to see the big picture much less care about anyone but themselves and their very narrow in-group.
