The issue is not whether I'll get over it, but the level of discourse on this site is at times childish and does not reflect the kind of critical thinking i learned @ Cal and I assume others did too.

What could be more childish than paying money to watch a bunch of young men play a game that none of us have played in 30-40 years (and even then, we played touch football)? Then spending hours talking about it afterwards? It's what we do! OWN IT.

The man was not just incompetent.
Many believed he duped Carol Christ into a "fraudulent" extension with his "story" about Northwestern.

I guess you're "ok" with that.
Most of us are not.

Our Athletic Program may never "survive" the harm and damage he did with his incompetence.
But my last football game as an undergrad at Cal was "The Play", so I'm thinking we still have a "chance".

Why did he stop giving speeches?

Re; I guess you're "ok" with that. Most of us are not." How in the world do you conflate a tasteless use of a MLK quote with my view on Knowlton? But such superficial and angry thinking is pretty common these days.

MLK did not stop giving speeches. His one at the end of the march to Montgomery and the most poignant of all, his speech in Memphis the night before he was murdered should be seen/heard. At the end of the Memphis speech it seems he almost knew what would happen the next day. To some degree his courage led my wife and I to go to the south after we finished Cal, to work on civil rights.....

That speech is from August 1963. MLK died in April 1968.

my mistake does not change the underlying issue....I'll leave it that the use of that famous line juxtaposed to the retirement of K is disrespectful, ignorant and perhaps worst of all not clever
