Greetings.

I'm a UNC alum that will be attending the game on 10/17. Never having been to a game there, what is my best option for getting tickets?

if I go through the UNC ticket office, if you're like everyone else, the visiting block of tickets are usually the worst seats. Can you buy individual tickets from the Cal ticket office? Or am I better off going through the secondary market.

How difficult is the secondary market? The stadium is pretty big so I would think tickets would be plentiful but what might I need to pay for a good ticket?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Welcome!

The only way the game will approach being a sellout is if we are undefeated, or close to it. And even then...
Tickets will be available from Cal and also Stubhub, SeatGeek, etc.

Even the worst seats in Memorial Stadium are pretty good. If I were you, I'd get tickets in the NC block, just because that's how I like being at away games.

Hope you have a great trip (except for the outcome of the game). Hey, tell us what to expect from your team this fall!

Thanks for the response.

No one knows what to expect from our team this year. I would hate to be TCU who opens against us- they probably have no way to gameplan against such an unknown.

Having said that, there has been an almost complete overhaul of the roster. Belichick seems to have focused on bringing in OL and DL. They brought in some defensive players from Washington who played for the younger Belichick which should help. They brought in what sounds like a promising QB, but otherwise didn't really bring in many skill players on offense. I think the main thing Belichick may bring this year is attitude- Carolina was soft under Mack Brown and, if nothing else, I hope they're a bit tougher.

I've been a Carolina fan for almost 50 years and I've learned to never expect anything more than mediocrity, or slightly better. It remains to be seen if that changes under Belichick. I'll believe it when I see it.

When I go to away games, I like to get tickets near my team so that is what I look for when getting away game tickets. Until last year, the Cal football team bench was in front of the student section because the Pac 12 had a rule against student sections being behind the visiting team bench. Now the visiting team is there. The more comfortable seats are on the west side of the stadium where the Cal team now is. There are also more amenities on the west side including better bathrooms and food options. You will not be able to get seats right behind the UNC bench, but you can get bench seats on the east side. It is quite a walk to get to the lower seats on the east side. Someone else may want to talk about the east side of the stadium since I have only been there twice in the last 20 years for games. At least you will not be looking into the sun since it is a night game. I would check SeatGeek for tickets that are put up for sale by Cal season ticket holders since that is supported by Cal Athletics.

Are you staying in Berkeley? If not, I recommend staying somewhere near a Bart station since that is the easiest way to get to Berkeley and then take a shuttle to Memorial Stadium. Walking to Memorial is doable, but it is uphill. If you choose to drive, have a plan for parking as it can be expensive and hard to find especially near the stadium.

As an aside or two, I have been to every Pac 12 stadium before the conference fell apart. I have not been to any ACC stadiums yet, at least not ones outside of California. As far as I know, Cal Memorial Stadium has the distinction of being the only major stadium that has a major earthquake fault going through the field, the Hayward Fault. Did you see the movie, The Dark Knight Rises, with the football field that collapses? The largest quake I have been in was a 7.4 but that was in Eureka not Berkeley.

Do not worry! Clear and concise evacuation instructions are garbled through the PA system before the game in case of an earthquake. Just do not fall into the fault line!

For visiting fans: The fault line for the Hayward Fault is helpfully marked right on the field, so no need to wonder where it is!

For a program that has won 750+ games, North Carolina football should garner more interest, but basketball diverts all of that.
