Does anyone go to class anymore or have we given up on that?

Serious question but do any football players still go to class and are they still required to maintain grades? Remember during Tedford when we were worried about players flunking out?

I bet Cal players still do and probably Stanford too. Maybe UCLA. But does anyone really believe some kid who's transferred 5 times and ends up at Ohio State is going to class?

For the record, I'm all for our players not going to class and getting an education. We should just pay them to play ball.

Ott graduated in 3 years. It took me 4.5 and I was not a football player.

the monster tracks the gpas & academic degrees of every student athlete in the football program, yes players are going to classes tho admittedly the grad cert program is less academically rigorous than the undergraduate berkeley degree

there are very few cases like kadarius callaway where there is zero academic ambition

Way way back in my day, athletes could make use of study tables and tutors at the old T Buildings which are long since gone. What kind of legitimate study facilities and services are being offered to today's student-athletes I wonder? It must be even worse with all the travel time as a result of being in the ACC, losing even more in person class time.

Some of "going to class" is online. At some of the other schools, all of it is.

This was all foretold by Cardale Jones when he said "Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come here to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS".

Truer words have never been spoken. Everyone would be much happier if the "student"-athlete act was dropped.

I wonder how that's working out for Cardale since his NFL career didn't amount to much.

If schools were serious about the "student" part, he (and most other scholarship players) would never have even been at the school in the first place.

Now that is different point … if we go down that rabbit hole other non spoken dynamics will be revealed.

His comment comes with multiple different variables involved. It's a layered statement

On a related note, when liberals arts majors are taking up all the tables at Cafe Strada during the day, are they really studying or checking out people walking to class?

From my experience, both. Like the great coffee, the sights helped keep me awake. Loved spending most of the day and most nights studying at Berkeley cafes!

If we're going to have full time pro players not otherwise connected to the school why not have pro students taking cslasse in their (the players) names? The standin could do all coursework in duplicate and get their own degree while ghosting for the jock. Everybody wins.
