So which two wins gets Cal to the (reinstated) Jimmy Kimmel Bowl?

I wonder how Wilcox apologists are gonna lower the bar for this year. Perhaps '7-6 will represent a step in the right direction'?

I honestly think for some of them, they have no choice but to double down and keep rooting for Wilcox because they don't think they have enough time to enjoy the fruits of a rebuild. It's the whole "I don't buy green bananas anymore" situation applied to football.

I said early on that he needed to win at least 9 this year (bowl game included) to be worth keeping. Really I was done with Wilcox a while ago, but if he was going to coach this year then that's what I wanted to see.

Not looking promising to reach that mark.

Ron should fire JW after this game.

UCLA fired their HC recently and won against PSU today.

Sadly I don't think we can afford to fire him unless donors are willing to pony up some big money. Equally sadly, we can't afford to keep him around too. I've asked before whether there's appetite for donors to send money to a buyout fund instead of the NIL fund, but I guess that's off the table. So it would appear that we are absolutely ****ed once the next conference realignment happens, unless we can luck into a generational hire and rebuild the roster in the span of one or two seasons.

JW gotta have skeletons somewhere....need to hire a PI to dig or plant a cause to void his contract.

How did LA find $ to fire their HC?

We need something like 3x what they needed. The terms of the extension Knownothing gave him was mind bogglingly bad

Game over, moving on to fantasy football where I have a better chance of winning.

I feel like Cal football *is* fantasy* football. Every year, fans fantasize that this is the year and every year, we wake up and realize it was just a silly dream.

Foster's deal was a sweetheart one for UCLA. Very different situation.

Furthermore the apologists will echo the bull**** claim that "Wilmoe was what was keeping cal afloat in an impossible to win environment"

Because everyone knows that being smack dab in the middle of a metro area that produced Tom Brady, Davante Adams; Bakhtiari, Josh Allen, Jared Allen, etc etc etc all of whom stated they wanted to play for Cal but weren't offered; having the collectively wealthiest alumni base of any university on the planet; having the tech industry in your backyard; having a fanbase that created its own Twitter movement; etc; etc is an "impossible situation to win in"

This clown should've been fired with Knowlton for the Paige Cornelius stuff let alone the 6-7 redundancy.

This program can truly be great but apathy has become our ethos.

No one should have been fired for the Cornelius stuff, because that woman was full of s***.

He should be fired for his performance and probably would have been by now if not for that stupid extension.

this

the buyout drop by like what, 5 M after the end of this season?

Once again, Knowlton put us in this spot by scamming 15 M for himself out of our university and then wasting another 30+ million

It was 21-7 and we allowed 38 unanswered points. Not even a field goal.

JKS had 1 TD vs 3 Picks.

Raphael was the leading rusher. 18 for 67 3.7 per carry.

Boston College got whooped today. We squeaked by a week ago.

I foresee an empty-ish CMS for the remainder of the year.

I also agree with what other posters have written: We won't get anything else from Wilcox, but the problem is that Cal needs ~ $18M to send him packing that they don't have and will have difficulty raising.

the money is due to him anyways. And as UCLA proved yesterday and Colorado proved in 2022, you don't need any coaching staff to get impressive wins

You root hard for this team but you know that the worst thing that could happen to the program is for us to stumble to an
8 win season against lightweight competition that allows Wilcox to stay. He is just awful as a head coach. So vanilla at his best on both sides of the ball. If their was any hope at all he had grown into the position it died last season against Miami when we dominated a good team for 3 quarters and he then went into both prevent offense and prevent defense mode and blew the game. He just finds ways to lose. He must be replaced and maybe we convince JKS to stay and build a decent program around him with real coaches, real talent, and real optimism.
Our program just won't elevate under Wilcox. Hard to stay enthused when he's the same year after year. We must make a new hire and we can't miss on the next one. Go Bears!

Well, reality has set in.

Destroyed at home by Duke.

Everyone we beat so far looked awful today.

Schedule is still weak, so it will probably be . . . another .500 season, give or take a game. Further stagnation under this coach.

I honestly didn't understand the hype last week. Gutsy win against.... BC. Seriously? BC might not win a FBS game. The only way the BC win was quality is because we lost to FSU last year, when they were the BC of the ACC.

The reality is it doesn't take much fortitude to come back on BC. Not any more than it took duke to come back on us. Cal is a mentally soft team. They have shown it through changes in the roster, changes in coaches ... Wilcox develops soft teams. They lose close games, and now, without a Captain on offense, fold up completely after a couple of bad plays.

Usually defensive coaches identity is toughness. Wilcox doesn't bring that.
