I'm here, enjoying the win. But one game doesn't save Wilcox after 9 years of suckiness.

If he can ride this into a late-season winning streak then I will be happy to reevaluate. One game at a time.

Stanford and SMU at home will be easier than this one. Though not as easy as the 4 games he already lost to squander a historically easy schedule and program changing opportunity.

Jennings will be the best QB we will face this season, much better than Moss. On the plus side, we might have Cade back.

If you watch the replay of the final of the game, De Jesus faked the defender out so badly that he practically fell over.

First game I saw DeJesus play, I was like, holy crap, that dude is fast, and good!

Them I went to the second game and a woman was wearing his jersey. I assume she was related. I gave her some cheer.

Now he sets the record.
Wow.

Definitely ACC player of the week. Maybe more.

So he now has a games with 15 and 16 receptions. WOW

And the first time we all saw him at the Bowl game last year when he kicked our arse, we said, "holy crap, that dude is fast, and good!" only we were pissed.

Thank god he he transferred here

Of the guys who have started at WR most of the season, he is clearly the one guy Sagapolutele trusts to get open, more than likely hang onto the ball, and then get yards after the catch.

Imagine where we would be if we didn't get him after all our scholarship WRs left?

The other WRs need to step up because Stanfurd is going to bracket the hell out of him. My money is on Trond taking advantage and having a big game. Not sure where Jordan King disappeared to today, but I hope to god that he gets all of Hamper's reps going forward.

Trond is set up to have a big day, but he needs to hail in the passes. He's had too many drops on the season for me to assume automatically that he will take advantage of the extra attention paid to DeJesus.

San Diego state might be the playoff favorite for the g5 and UVA is still in contention for an ACC title. I don't consider those as awful loses. Va Tech there was no excuse for, (Duke is very weird and might win the ACC while losing to UConn

The ACC is terrible this year. We had Virginia at home, played terrible and still had a chance to beat them. We were #81 in Sagarin (our worst since 2013) for a reason. If we're just an average Cal team of the last 50 years we could win the ACC this year. Shoot, if this team played like it did today and against Minnesota in all our games, this team, as flawed as it is with weak OL and DL and only a QB and a 5'5 WR for offense, wins 10, easy.

Hampton, our LB from Alaska, is "King Salmon." King, our senior former walkon WR, is the "Mailman" (or Postman?) because "he delivers" (has reliable hands).

I think if they focus on DeJesus we can burn them long with Adams, our even faster smurf WR. Trond and Hamper have trouble getting open and then have trouble securing catches when defended, or even sometimes when wide open.

Given our schedule, with a better coach this win easily puts us at 10-0, ranked and in sole possession of first place in the ACC. Last year and this year were set up for program changing dream seasons.

There is a glaring, fundamental flaw in this line of reasoning, because the proposition of the team even being in position to go 10-0 necessarily implies that its coaches have done a lot of excellent work in the first place.

How many P12 teams do you reckon could go 10-0 with our schedule? Oregon, yes, and Utah maybe. No guarantees USC could. That's it.

Given we gave up a 3 score lead to 5-4 Duke who just lost to UConn; and we nearly blew one to 4-5 North Carolina; and we did lose to 8-2 Virginia; and we did lose to 7-2 sdsu…
But also beat 7-2 Louisville on the road , beat 2-8 Oregon State on the road, barely beat 4-5 UNC and in all reality should've lost at home; beat 4-5 Texas southern at home; beat 6-3 Minnesota at home; and barely beat 1-9 Boston college on the road…
I see that the teams we beat are a combined 24-32; while the teams that beat us are a combined 24-13

Which means that this team is surprise surprise on par with all the other Wilmoe teams throughout history with a ceiling of 8-4 and a floor of 4-8…likely bolstered by a strong early ooc record and a sub .500 conference record aka 6-7…again
So yes. 10-0 ain't likely even sans Wilmoe. However I will say with the exception of the early drops at sdsu we could've won any one of those games (same story different year) and tbh I could make a claim that even though sdsu was a blowout loss the team likely could've and should've won that game if they had been coached properly aka prepared and time and personnel management was closer to mediocre than dog **** on a scale of Holmoe to Marv Levy.

I don't know how it is relevant but there are 8 former Pac-12 teams ranked above us in Sagarin.

We always finished near the bottom of the conference under Wilcox and according to Sagsin this is Wilcox's worst team, despite the record. That is because this is our easiest schedule since 1945, which was impacted by young men fighting in WW2 instead of playing college football.

If we had better coaches and better players (or just didn't chase off the skill players we had). and were better than we are now, it is not a stretch to say we beat 3 of the 4 bad teams we lost to and could have beat (or San Diego State who we should always beat) and then beat Stanford for 10 wins. Minimum.

I am not, I am celebrating it. I was just addressing Golden One's post and then Cal88's response which was about THIS SEASON not this game.

Go read the very first post in this thread. I am the one who started this thread because I wanted to talk about ways we might win this game. And what I said we needed to do is pretty much what we did.

So stop ****ting all over me and misrepresenting what I said. I am not ****ting on this win. That is a lie.

Worth noting that UCONN left the American in 2019, a few years ago their student paper published an editorial that they should just park it in the MAC, and are now basically stuck on the outside looking in until the next realignment cycle

I posted this in another thread and will say the same here.
Please accept my apologies for upsetting you.

Alright then. That all sounds well and good. Perhaps I have indeed mistaken you with others. I apologize.
I'm not here to malign you, or win any arguments.
My post was simply an exasperation about the incessant moaning and complaining, the multiple threads, the diversion in every thread to return to the same topic.

One has to ask who is desired to be ousted more, me with Trump (see OT) or the growls crowd with Wilcox?

I come to Growls to escape the banality of Trumpworld, enjoy a little C, a little A, a little L, and I'm just flummoxed by the constant dissatisfaction, even after a Bowl eligible big win.

Please accept my retreat on the matter.
