How long do you want to ignore this user?
How seriously do the moderators take their own cose if conduct and user agreement? If someone violates the code and his/her post flagged, what are the consequences for the violator?

It's actually not concordtom who caused me to ask. I've been meaning to ask about another poster who keeps insulting posters with his posts. That poster has also DMed me to troll me, though not quite as insultingly.

Go to the off topic board. You'll lose faith on the code of conduct rules. And humanity.

Flag posts and/or let us know if folks are violating the terms of service.

How long after that does it take before any action is taken against the poster by the mods? Will the flagger be notified of said action?

The mods here are pretty good.

I had a problem where someone legit threatened me, and the mods took care of it. Both of us post still. No issues since.

I also had (what I took as a playful) feud with a former member (RIP) that they never bothered me about.

Remember, this isn't reddit. While people are "anonymous" a LOT of the posters here are known. They dont hide. I have posted pictures of my family, etc. I have chatted with people on the phone, in person, before games, at random spots around town. My dad and his good friends (RIP) used to post here. My sister still does occasionally.

My point is that the MODs balance, very well IMO, the fact that we are a real community with people who just have odd personalities and get overly invested in what they think.

So, expect that the mods will take action, you might not see it, but the goal isnt to mass block anyone frustrating (I am very frustrating so thats good for me), but to make this place approachable for everyone.

I have like a dozen people blocked, just because their opinion doesnt matter to me anymore (being all the same, or less their opinion and more "not your opinion"), but even those people get checked to see if its the same old or if they have changed. I know for a FACT that someone I talk to in real life about Cal football is blocked here by me, which is my second point: dont take the quick messages too seriously. Everyone is here because we love Cal and Cal football.

Agree that the mods strike just about the right balance. You'd almost think "mod" was short for "moderate".

If you were a product of the free speech movement, then you should know it has nothing with "tattle tales." It was about the students being able to exercise their right to speech on a public university campus. It was not about anyone's reporting of malfeasance. The FSM began because Cal initially banned students from being able to set up tables on Sproul Plaza.

Free speech has not and never will equal the right to say whatever anyone wants whenever that person wants and however that person wants regardless of consequences. Free speech is, has, and always is about the government's ability to restrict an individual person's ability to express him/herself.

As for the rest of your comment, did you want someone to applaud you for your "ignor[ing] offensive stuff?" If so, here you go, "hooray for you! What a big boy you are! Good job, fella!"

One individual in particular has been flaming other posters with impunity for a while now. He's also DMed me in order to disparage me (though slightly less insultingly than he has done with his public posts). TBH, I wouldn't be surprised if he did the same to others. It seems odd that this poster gets a pass for this (and other less tasteful actions) while other posters seem to have been banned (for what reasons, I am not aware) or suspended.

I'm just seeking clarity here. What exactly are posters permitted to do and not do before their accounts get suspended/banned?

This is the absolute worst take on free speech. It is the antithesis of free speech.

The 1st amendment and relation to government sanction is the ABSOLUTE FLOOR of a free society. If speech you don't like HaS cOnSeQuEnCeS beyond being told to hush, you don't have free speech, you have managed speech.

Free Speech is not the first amendment, it is a social and cultural agreement that the most important things to say are the things people most oppose being said.

I honestly cannot believe that I am seeing this asinine argument that the limit to free speech is government punishment. That is so cowardly and anti-Cal.

He's likely not allowed within 200 feet of multiple university campuses due to restraining orders

Well said. As been said many times before: this is not a "public" outlet...someone puts in the work to create the structure, writes articles/commentary, assumes the cost and gathers whatever the revenue might be, et. al. If they wanted to limit it to Cal Alums only, they could do that too.
