Ted Danson and Whoopi Goldberg had a brief, highly publicized, and controversial romantic relationship in the early 1990s. They were never married.

Key Details of Their Relationship

How they met: Danson and Goldberg first met in 1988 on The Arsenio Hall Show, but their romance blossomed in 1992 on the set of the film Made in America, in which they co-starred.
The Affair and Divorce: At the time their affair began, Ted Danson was married to his second wife, Cassandra Coates, for 16 years. News of the affair led to a costly divorce, reportedly costing Danson around $30 million.

Controversy and the Friars Club Roast: Their interracial relationship in the public eye faced significant scrutiny. The controversy peaked in October 1993, when Danson appeared in blackface and performed racially insensitive jokes at a Friars Club roast for Goldberg. The act sparked widespread public outrage, despite Goldberg's defense that she had helped write much of the material as a form of societal critique and private joke.
The Breakup: The intense media scrutiny and public backlash ultimately led to their split after about 18 months of dating.

Aftermath: Goldberg later stated that the breakup was painful and that the loss of their friendship hurt a great deal, noting she remained friends with most other ex-partners except Danson. Danson married actress Mary Steenburgen in 1995, and they remain together.

I missed this one, and was expecting them to eat a hot dog.

Maybe that part comes in the next scene back at her apartment.

The premise of Made in America is that a young Black woman, Zora, discovers she was conceived via a sperm bank and sets out to find her biological father, only to learn he is a flamboyant white car dealer, Hal (Ted Danson), a far cry from the Black man her mother, Sarah (Whoopi Goldberg), requested. The comedy explores racial themes and the clash of personalities as Sarah and Hal navigate their unexpected connection.

Whoopi used to have a house in the Rockridge District of North Oakland. I saw her a few decades ago at Edy's, the ice cream place that was on Shattuck. Then I saw her about 12-15 years ago at Cactus restaurant on College Ave (a few blocks from where her house was, I believe.).

She also owned an 1890 Victorian near Berkeley City Hall from the 1980s until 2015. She listed it for $1.27 million and sold it for just over $2 million.

As we speak, she's probably posting somewhere about the times she spotted Big C and/or concordtom in public, but was too starstruck to ask for autographs.

Weren't the owners of Top Dog looking for a buyer? If so, that call out on "The View" probably just doubled the valuation of the company. Although I personally think Top Dog is priceless.
