Those are the current openings, a pretty long list, the coaching carrousel action will be intense the next few weeks...

Arkansas
Auburn
Cal
Florida
LSU
Oklahoma St.
Penn St.
Furd
UCLA

DeSean is going to throw his hat in, should at least get an interview.

Rolovich needs to, at the very least, be competitive next week against SMU, and have a good bowl game, he will be auditioning for the job.

So who are the leading candidates, dark horses and potential names?

Other names:

Will Stein, Oregon OC
Brian Hartline Ohio St OC, 38, coached under Urban Meyer
Jon Sumrall, Tulane HC - probably headed to the SEC
Sean Lewis, SDSU coach
Tim Plough, UCD
Joe Brady, Bills OC, 36, OC @ '19 National Champion LSU, developed Heisman QB Joe Burrow

Given RR's NFL experience and contacts, I would expect to see several candidates from the League.

Tosh Lupoi

The guy who stole Shaq Thompson from Cal along with Justin Wilcox when they were together at UW.

The most ironic, entertaining outcome is the most likely,

I wouldn't mind giving DeSean a shot at it. It could be a lot worse and since he already had a productive pro career he'd probably be willing to go on a prove-it deal until he earns a Wilcox contract. My ideal choice is Davis Webb but I think that's incredibly unlikely

Troy Taylor. And I don't believe any of Furds BS about him. Also anybody from the UNLV staff. Maybe Longshore?

I think Deon is about to be available!

I hope the decision is made before the bowl game (even if it isn't publicly announced).

Expect every opening to be filled before the playoff games, since the portal opens January 2nd

I hate to say it but out of these jobs, where do we realistically rank? Last? Maybe ahead of Furd? Gulp. Still glad Wilcox is gone.

Our top pick might not necessarily be the top pick on most of these openings.

UCLA's AD is a laughingstock, their fan base is completely demoralized and the lack of an on campus stadium might make their job less enticing than Cal's. I am hoping Ron, along with the energy and enthusiasm of Chancellor Lyons, attracts the best possible candidate.

You are ingesting a massive quantity of copium there.

UCLA football is in a place similar to Cal's, but in ten years they will be earning a healthy amount of TV money in a conference that will still exist. Can Cal say that?

I live close to UCLA and have some friends who are close to the program. There is zero energy behind the program. The AD has lost almost all the support of alumni and major donors. They have a relatively new chancellor who had zero connection to UCLA, so he still learning on the job. The exploration of moving from the Rose Bowl to SoFi has pissed off many longtime season ticket holders.

Okay. Cal football's situation is still not better. Cal just fired an AD who was at least as bad as Jarmond, and will be hiring a new football coach before hiring a new AD. UCLA's chancellor is relatively new but comes to UCLA from a school with a strong football program (Miami) and UCLA folks didn't think the previous chancellor was a help to football.

I wasn't being serious, but if Grubb is really a candidate then he might give chip a call.

Hes not a program leader. Nor does he want to be one since he walked away from UCLA. Cant recruit, but still good with Xs and Os, that scheme might not work in the pros but with how undisciplined college players are getting great recruits and 4/5 star athletes in space is always a winning formula

Pair him up with a great recruiter and I can get on board

Cal has a Football GM, removed from whoever the "AD" is. We will get a Basketball GM and then the next AD will be but an administrator for the non-revenue sports.

We'll have to wait and see if that is how things shake out when it's all said and done, but if Cal gets a men's basketball GM who turns up the heat on Madsen, I'm fine with that.

ESPN has a story ranking those openings and they had Stanfurd 7th, UCLA 8th and Cal 9th and last.

I am sure Ron Rivera has someone in mind. It needs to be an offensive guy or our QB will be gone before the sun sets. My vote is for Sean Lewis from SDSU.

Cal would be a step up for Lewis and he is probably not going to get hired by anyone else that currently has an opening.

Not to mention he kicked the Bears butt this year 34-0!!!!!!

If he wants to stay down south he could just head north 2 hours to Westwood but he will definitely be in the mix for every opening if San Diego State finishes strong in the Mountain West

Even the 13-1 Nevada team in 2010 couldn't get the job done on the islands with Kaepernick, it's a strange place to play even for good teams

I suppose. Hawaii beat Stanford earlier in the year in Hawaii.

Traveling to the island is ridiculously hard to play football - and they flew, if papers are to believed, coach. I am pretty sure that was a recipe for disaster.

Again - Tosh has been a HC for exactly ZERO games. If he fails to hire well, manage well, build staff loyalty then we are SCREWED!@!!!!!

tosh brings recruits, or stein from Oregon. Gives JKS a reason to stay since he obuviously like what he saw (or maybe the exposure and 500k uniforms they have).

I actually like Jim Mora. Worked on the west coast, now knows the east ish. He's direct and doesn't take BS. His interviews are entertaining. I like the "shut off your phone" one and where he walked out. Like a diff version of Mike leech.

Desean would bring some really talented WR hopefuls. Might see his career and want to play. He'll probability b the HC and WR coach. Would cost less due to not proven much as a HC. Very risky but could pay off. San Diego state coach seems like a cheaper hire too. And I'm sure he wants out of the Pac whatever they call themselves know, even before he's actually in there.

Update!!! This just in. Chip Kelly available after raiders fire him after 11 games with worst offense. Haha I kid. Don't want him.

That is just such an optomotistic take in the era of NIL. Why in the WORLD would a kid take a huge paycut to "come with to$h?" That is the risk with him - that the skills he had as an "uber recruiter" are a bit stale in the era when kids have agents and it is all about the $$$$$

Agreed here. I like Tosh, Stein is intriguing but his track record is limited. I like Jim Mora too, but are we perceived to be a better job than Mora's job? Those are my top 3 at the moment.

We need someone who can bring in recruits with west coast ties. We have so many good players in our back yard in Monte Vista, De La Salle, Antioch, San Ramon Valley etc. We lost them all to out of state.

People who vouch for Sean Lewis. I don't get it. Because he beat us this year?

His Wilcoxian record at Kent State:

2-10
7-6
3-1
7-7
5-7

At SDSU he is
3-9 and 9-2 . Ya he whopped our ass but he also got some questionable losses this year as well.

People are critiquing Tosh's record in the other thread and being so harsh, and then we suggest Sean Lewis? My god why don't we put the nail in the coffin
