Some of these things are obligatory

Especially while they are still coaching the next two games (assuming we accept a bowl invitation).

He was talking about Sonny Dykes, not Tosh Lupoi

Or Desean, or himself…
Tedford is only 64 and will be back from a year of rest.

We all knew Tosh is on any list of 14 candidates, but it sure doesn't sound like he is the shoe in some on this board make him out to be.

He could come back and leave a job for health reasons a 4th time

I like he didn't hire a search firm- that would really be disappointing.

I'm liking the HC at New Mexico, Jason Eck. Lots of experience, offense minded, turn around at Idaho and New Mexico. Passionate players coach.

I bet he's at UW(Madison) in '27. But yes. He's awesome, reminds me of Mike Leach.

He's also a former offensive lineman and OL coach, a plus.

Also rumored to be a finalist for the OSU job.

One thing in our favor: we are very slow to fire underperforming football coaches.

Yes, which makes it an A for coaches. Stay here 10 years and amass generational wealth

Plus, maybe for the first time, we have a football guy making the call...and a Cal guy to boot. And, another Cal guy over the whole business.

A "cal guy" wrassler hired Square Jaw.

But it was well into January of 2017 when he fired Dykes and all the better candidates were hired by then.

Williams should have fired Dykes in November 2016 or failing that he should have just waited until November 2017 when all the good candidates are available.

Yeah, that was honestly the best thing to read about this process.

I almost was. He called me, but my kids have conditioned me to never take a call without a text first, so I let it go to voice mail. By the time I got back to him, he had already taken Yogi.

I don't object to not using a national search form since the qualified candidates are well-known. I would hope that, once we are down to, say the final 3, that we use a qualified private investigation form to vet them.

Right? Since I have zero qualifications to recommend anything about football to Ron Rivera, I was just going to try and throw John Madden's hat into the ring, simply as an homage to somebody always suggesting him in the late 20th century hirings. Also Bill Walsh.

Could Tosh as HC and Stein as his OC happen? Tosh could give him full control of the offense and maybe Cal can pony up for a big salary? That'd be a monster combo for recruiting, offense, and D. And it could give Stein the stepping stone he might need to a bigger job. And it would **** Oregon over which would be the cherry on top.

I doubt it would impact Oregon at all so long as Lanning is still there.

Why would Will Stein take a demotion to be Cal's OC?

And Lanning as his DC.

As I said, full control of the offense (which he doesn't have with Lanning) and $$$$. Cal likely can't pay him more than Oregon but this is a hypothetical so let's dream a little.

I am pretty sure Stein stays at Oregon until a HC job he wants opens up, but if Tosh could pull that off it would confirm his super recruiter salesman legendary status.

Not positive things about Rolo posted on another board, sounds like a pain.
