Not saying I've made a decision on Tosh (as if it mattered), but consider:
Tosh to Cal
Wilcox to Oregon as DC
Would that not make national headlines? Certainly would bring publicity to Cal.

Zero chance. Oregon will promote Chris Hampton. He hasn't been named DC in waiting, but he is.

Hampton is officially listed as co-DC at Oregon, for the 3rd year in a row.

What is Tosh's contract situation? Would Cal have to pay Oregon to get him?

Exactly. But he doesn't run the D during games. If Tosh leaves and Hampton isn't promoted, he will also leave.

Do you think Tosh would try to hire Hampton as his DC?

I think Lanning will promote Hampton, but if he didn't that would certainly make a lot of sense.

Will Lanning pack up some of his special "energy powder" for Tosh as a parting gift if he takes the Cal job?

He does those nicotine things. Zyns. A lot.

Does Lanning call defense plays now?

Some of us suffer from rTDS- reverse Tosh Derangement Syndrome in the rabid support for him. Apart from the multiple ethical controversies of his past, it is considered fact that he used to recruit really well but in the pre NIL era. And on the actual coaching side of things he has never been a HC and as a DC its not clear he has coached up his roster at or above its talent level. He seems a gamble that is no better and perhaps worse than other options no?

Agreed. And our one marquee player who we want to build around is a terrific, young QB. What the heck does Tosh know about offense? Not convinced he's the right guy. Would it be Wilcox all over again? Maybe some improvement, maybe not.
I'd really line a young, dynamic offensive innovator who can provide some excitement and enthusiasm.

He has 1 singular "ethical controversy", recruiting Shaq and others to UW. That's it. fakeinjurygate was the head coach, period. And then? Nothing.

You must not drink coffee. Head over to Tosh's party boat and I am sure he will push a latte across the table to convince you otherwise. Before you say all coaches make lattes, some do it better than others.

Do you have any idea how often a defensive coach becomes a passing or running game coordinator? "All the time". What in the freaking world do you think a defensive coach does all day but study offense?
