New Mexico just beat SDSU 23-17 in double OT, to end the regular season at 9-3. And we lost 34-0 to SDSU. We really need to give Eck serious consideration.

Agreed.
100% agree. I've been looking him up a lot of good things. That being said I can sadly see Cal ignoring him.

Too many folks blinded by Tosh's "recruiting prowess" and his Cal degree. Never mind he's never been a DC for a top defense under a HC that wasn't a defensive specialist. There's no way to determine what his actual skills and abilities as a defensive coordinator really are, let alone any way to extrapolate to his projected abilities as a HC.
Yes, Eck would be a very good hire. He'll land a good P4 job soon.

If we get him, he'll insist on a clause that if the Wisky job opens, he's gone (if he gets it). Which shows you where his allegiance lies. I have no evidence, other than knowing something about the coaching business.
NM looked pretty good out there today. They kept playing hard the whole game.
Eck's an interesting prospect. Had a solid but not spectacular career at FCS Idaho and now is having some success in his first year at New Mexico.
The big risk besides the obvious one that most FCS coaches that go to FBS fail (mitigated by his first year at FBS New Mexico) is that he's never recruited as an assistant or head coach at a P4 program.

I'm not that worried about where a coach might jump to if they have success here. Who knows, maybe Fickell turns things around at Wisconsin. Or they hire Jim Leonhard instead of Eck.
They were picked to finish 11th out of 12 in the Mountain West and he has them tied for 1st place. Idaho had 5 straight losing seasons before he got there and he turned them around pretty quickly.
Not sure he's the best choice but I would have no problem if that's the direction we went.
