I was firmly on the fence regarding Lupoi. So many debatable positives and negatives.

But it's a huge get for The Golden Bears, so that warms my heart.

How can anyone NOT be psyched to hear this news?

The only time I ever lost sleep over Cal football was the night after Tosh bolted for Washington. Couldn't sleep. Is that kinda weird?

It might have been idle speculation but early when UCLA fired their head coach I recall a tweet listing Tosh as a candidate under consideration.

Multiple sources have told me that Tosh has accepted the Cal job. However, the UC regents are still involved which is why we are not getting any *official announcement* now.

Bottom line: If it wasn't for the UC Regents, Tosh would be announced.

"A couple of weeks"? That would be before Big Game and before Wilcox was fired and before the list of 14 candidates and committee…. Probably more like Rivera called to gauge his interest. It would be smart to have an idea of who you might hire before you fire your current coach. Moreover, if it really were "in the works for a couple of weeks" I'd think they would be done negotiating a while ago.

I have a feeling it was done early, which is why Wilcox came out flat vs Furd, and between it being finalized, and announced, the price got higher that agreed to. No way to know, just my hunch. I don't really care as long as donors are willing to pay and we get who we want, it doesn't matter. If it was my money though, I'd stall if I felt I was getting soaked for extra cash, which is why I think that's the reason, if it was indeed decided weeks ago. Could just be UC red tape, too. I doubt that number very much. I am sure this is a five year deal like everyone else this cycle. My guess is it turns out he gets pretty much what Will Stein is getting. That seems like a market setting rate for an Oregon Coordinator with no head coaching experience.

4 years at $18M was what I saw reported on X yday.
