Just like the HC hiring process, it's all part of being a BI subscriber.

Not only that, they mock the free board (where all the freeloaders and trolls hang out according to them).

Seems like more of a Stanford thing to do, boooooo.

Fred, haven't you ever been in the company of wealthy people? They run things because they are $marter than you. Look at the $tock market, put your head down, shut up, and get to work.

Unsolicited testimony: I read both boards. You will get better info, faster, from the premium board. If you want, you can then take that info and process it as you wish. Your choice. And if you're as smart as you think you are, you can separate information from opinion.

A number of BI's most veteran, most respected posters have yet to "go premium". That's fine, too.

I was premium for a couple years long ago, wasn't worth it. Teen boy stalking doesn't interest me either

Me too, not the cost, just felt that the value added was not worth the price

I understand the need to have a "premium" board to discuss "premium" content (written by paid staff) as part of Bearinsider's business model, but the idea of an exclusive area for discussion among only the few just runs counter to why I picked Cal over Stanford.

Back in the day I used to visit the Stanford boards and we were discussing college rankings and the core idea of "exclusivity" which is a key to USN&WR's rankings. My point being that the top quartile of Cal admits is nearly identical in size, grades and test scores, but Cal's class is just 4 times as big. None of which has much to do with the quality of education. I love a huge lecture hall with a rock star professor. Stanford posters said, "Don't you wish Cal was more exclusive?" And my response was that "That is the difference between Cal and Stanford. I wish everyone could have a Cal education. I think Stanford would be a better school if it had 4X the undergraduates. You have enough land. That was actually what Leland Stanford wanted."

Anyway, I have come close to paying premium just to give back and support the site that I spend so much time on, but there is a certain level of insider "party line" I already find objectionable (and I am sure is worse on the premium board) and the couple times I've had one month bans for seemingly going against it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth,

Mixed feelings. You can't expect a freshman who has only known Cal football for less than a year to feel the same way as alumni.

I just joined premium a few days ago. I had no idea there was an entire party going on without me!

I can see reasons why one might find the premium board to be groupthink. I'm glad there are two options for everyone to choose however they see fit.

I didn't pick Cal over Stanfurd.

Free internet forum vs free with a very low cost and niche "premium" version isn't the Lair dirt vs Sierra Camp paving you make it out to be.

You wanted to go to Stanford? No problem, I had family and friends who went there. To each their own.

I just really love Cal and Berkeley, the promise of public education, our tradition of social justice activism and free and open debate about Cal sports and our great potential for excellence.

I didn't have this "free internet forum is how I pick schools" dilemma you had.

You do you. Lots of people make other choices.

I prefer public schools with lots of people and open boards with lots of different ideas, even with visitors from other schools. To each their own.

Supporting this board is a good thing though, so thank for that.

I was a Growls follower for many years. Then I can't recall when but i decided to become a subscriber. Best investment of my 10 or 12 bucks I could make. The best info for Cal football & basketball hands down. I have also subscribed to Cal Rivals/On3. Both have the strengths but BI has truly the pulse of all things recruiting, the teams and Cal Athletics in general.
