If you haven't been on the BB board lately, UCLA is paying $12M for a young power forward Serb prospect currently playing for Barcelona.

That is a safe prediction. There are a few QBs reportedly making at least $5 million this year.

At least for basketball, if the player is really that good, you're only going to have to pay him for one season. The risk is that he won't be that good and you'll have spent $12 million for two years of your team's fourth or fifth best player.

For giggles, I had AI search for the highest paid State of California employee. It said DeShaun Foster at 7.1 million. I suspect that's no longer true.

It could happen a school that signs of contract with the player for 4 years if he's really that good I kick $25 million a year they get that in the NBA

For basketball attendance, UCLA and Cal have a similar issue. Wooden's retirement was followed a few years later by the rise of the Showtime Lakers and their five titles in the 1980s. LA basketball has been Lakers first and foremost ever since. Cal has to contend with the Warriors having the same hold on Bay Area basketball fans since the Warriors' four titles in seven years.

On top of that, it's not the 1970s anymore and every fan with cable or satellite can watch almost all the games on TV instead of going to the arena, and can also see half a dozen other games on TV the same night. Given all of this, would it be better if Haas Pavilion had about the same number of seats as Harmon Gym did, so that the place would be filled? Maybe. It's water under the bridge, though.

From the espn's:

"The most groundbreaking part of the reworked deal is the $27.5 million that schools would be allotted to retain players, in addition to the $21.3 million cap that already exists.
It could represent a major reworking of the House settlement -- the groundbreaking agreement that governs paying players. The idea is that the extra money will take the place of payments from "associated entities" that were allowed above and beyond the $21.3 million cap. It was those payments that, many schools complained, obliterated any idea of a cap or controlled cost.
The SEC and Big Ten sought stronger language in the bill to guarantee that any third-party deals are truly outside deals and not coming from the schools' multimedia-rights partners, which currently arrange the majority of those deals."

Even if the fraudulent "Protect College Sports Act" musters up enough bribes to get through congress, it won't change this much, because the effective cap on payrolls would be just under $50 million.
