I assume Chesney will be running the same offense at UCLA this year. His JMU offense was pretty prolific last year but had trouble in these two games. Did anyone watch them?
However it does seem that Oregon/Tosh defense had trouble in the second half of their CFP game.
People keep talking about the 2nd half of the Oregon/JMU game as if it was some completely independent event. With the implication that a school like JMU last year could have beaten Oregon if that game had gone on just a little bit longer. Again Oregon was beating JMU 34-6 at halftime. Lanning/Tosh HEAVILY rotated in second and third string players on defense in the second half. Bear Alexander, Matayo Uiagalelei, and Teitum Tuioti all saw way reduced snap counts. So yeah JMU/ Chesney scored some points in the 2nd half, but does anyone seriously believe that the outcome of that game was ever in doubt? Or that had Oregon gone back to its full defense they couldn't have won by 40?
I don't. And I intensely dislike Oregon but you couldn't seriously watch that game and think that Chesney had Tosh figured out. No way. Oregon started preparing to play their next CFP game about 15 minutes into the JMU game.
