This is not a good football team.
Their dline is absolutely atrocious and they're playing a qb who has proven what he does in these games.
Their offense is one dimensional and their defensive front like I said is atrocious with a hodge podge secondary of inexperience.
Unless Somerville was dropped on his head as a baby we're going to run 12 personnel religiously.
I stand by my earlier prediction 62-17 bears.

The pundits are wrong this is not going to be close.

Agree we should win convincingly, though perhaps by a little closer margin.

I never played football, and certainly am not as conversant as you about Xs-and-Os, but it's pretty obvious we have significantly strengthened our offensive skill players, so JKS will have a lot more weapons to use.

For the first time in years, we have a great 2-deep at the skill positions. I don't care if UCLA's defense is improved over last year, because they won't be able to contain our offense -- and yes, hopefully we'll run a lot of 12 personnel.

On defense, I'll trust Tosh to limit UCLA's James Madison style offense.

Final score: Cal over UCLA 37-27.

This could be a high-scoring game. If I were a betting man, I'd take the over... and I don't even know what it is.

First game of the season, new teams, new schemes = large number of miscues. maybe not as high scoring a game as you might expect with 2 teams with talented skill players on offense.

Interesting tidbit: Sasuke is actually an anagram for Ucla Is @ss.

It was 53.5 last time, I looked. I'm having a buddy place a 3 par parlay in Vegas on the game for me: Cal with the points, Cal to win outright, and take the over. I see Cal winning a close shootout.

Taking the over at 53.5 seems like a no-brainer.

my only fear with this is a selfish one in that maybe our D ends up being way better than expected. We know our offense can put up points, and a lot of points with a decent oline. If Tosh gets the D to play lights out, Cal and the under looks pretty good.

You guys are scaring me. I saw this kind of posturing at SDSU last year. Knock it off.

Seriously hoping for that (especially since I won't be betting anyway). We would probably win 9-10 games!

Who is Sasuke?

Sasuke Uchiha is a ninja warrior from manga and anime.

Sasuke is also the name of the "ninja warrior" obstacle course TV show in Japan.

Here is a summary of Sasuke's powers:

It would be very concerning if Sasuke is playing for UCLA. Speed that can cause sonic booms would be difficult to contain as well as his ability to project the illusion of being attacked by a flock of crows to distract his opponents, just to name two of many.

I'm not seeing how Cal's defense is going to shut down UCLA's run game. Cal lost its best linebackers from last year and I'm uncertain the replacements it received in the portal are going to be an improvement. Even last year, Cal struggled to contain the run (that's a major understatement). I'm not sure this year's defense will be much better at stopping the run. That being the case, the game will probably end up as an offensive blowout.

We honestly just don't know how good the defense is going to be. New personnel, new coach, it's a full reset.

Similar things can be said about UCLA.

We were #107 in yards per carry defense last year. Instead of DL "engaging" OL so LBs can make plays at the second level, I am hoping we now will see DL making plays. On their other hand, in this game, I could see the Jet get in and torch us.

01 said "I'm not seeing how Cal's defense is going to shut down UCLA's run game…" that seems pretty spot on to me.

Also the consensus was to take the over, which was also prescient.
