Huge thank you to Train. They certainly didn't have to do a pro bono concert after a lackluster attended game vs a less than exciting opponent.

While the stage was an interesting choice, and the sound quality was less than stellar, they were awesome.

Listened to some Train songs on the ride back home. Glad we have this relationship with them. Another hometown band. Hope we can cross promote each other.

To get an act of his reknown for a Free concert to help work out the kinks for future shows….

I will definitely go to that concert. Last time I saw them was 1978 at the Berkeley Community Theater.

I saw The Kinks with Joe Ely at the Greek Theater on August 21, 1981.

You saw them on June 21, 1978.

Better than a Free reference ("All Right Now").

I saw Ray Davies at the Mountain Winery in 2012 with a young backup band. They right proper crushed the Kinks' catalogue. AWESOME!

Why did they put the barrier that far from the stage? They could have moved it 10-15yds closer without interfering with the south gate flow...

Great turnout otherwise, nice initiative.

Agree, they should move up to goal line from start, but they did move the line up to the goal line after the cheerleaders stop performing

Never heard of Train. I'm too old. Just listened to that Ramble On cover on Stern and a couple of their own songs on YouTube.

Conclusion: Those boys can Rock. Few can anymore.

Their first hit song was released 9 days after Bill Clinton left the White House.

Only 90's band I added to my pile is Pearl Jam. I did see that Train isn't a new act…..which goes a long way to explaining why they know how to play instruments and don't suck…….like almost every musical guest I have seen on SNL the last several years.

Further Train-Cal connections:

In 2014, the Cal Band did an entire Train half time show for the Big Game against Stanford.

In 2012 when Train was playing the Greek Theater Train's trumpet player, who was a Cal alum, came over to hang out with the Cal Band during its Friday Night practice in Memorial Stadium.

These are things that could have been noted or coordinated with, if Athletics knew any of their own history, which they do not.

For what it's worth, and I'm sure that the CALculus here was that they needed a draw in addition to Wagner… this would have been a REALLY solid scene after a higher attendance game.

Andrew McGraw has been running football operations since '06 and he had A LOT (really everything) to do with Train being willing to play this concert on Saturday. Another example of the people complaining about the Save Me San Francisco video missing the big picture - you think Train puts on a totally FREE concert to support Cal football without that connection? And what happened in '12-'14 is not unknown to Andrew, who had more than a little to do with what was going on with Train and Cal back then. So the observation that Athletics doesn't know "any of their own history" is off.

Believe me, there's a lot going on with these concerts and events. Cal's athletics' administration has had a lot of problems over the years (don't I know it) but being unaware of the Big Game tribute, etc. is definitely not one of them.
