Somerville doesnt look even remotely ready for Prime Time. So predictable.

Never mind the fact that untouched defenders were getting to our $3 million dollar QB on blitzes.

I don't expect it, but if the Berkeley Bears are able to win convincingly, this site will be very entertaining.

They are poorly coached.

This is already looking great! If we hold them to 7, we can win the third quarter

I can't tell if this is a problem with our LB's or coaching

Our LBs are not hitting the right gaps or they are just flat out being blocked

I was in disbelief after the run but that was a really solid stop all over the defense. PBU to coverage to pass rush. Is it real? Have to hope so.

This defense is not looking good

Must win has become now, we just come back and win

Better to have film to review and improve upon in a win than a loss.

This is a game Cal should've won. While I'm glad Cal did manage to pull out the win, my excitement is tempered with the reminder that Syracuse isn't a good team and this is a game that Cal was supposed to win.

This. These were two pretty weak teams that did not look particularly well coached. Thankfully the staff has time to improve with Wagner and then a much tougher opponent in Clemson.

Syracuse looked like a Wilcox coached team. Defense kept them in it while in every other aspect they found novel ways to screw themselves into a loss despite mostly outplaying us.

Cal has lost a lot of games on the road to bad/the worst teams in our conference even in our best years under Tedford (2006) but it was almost an annual occurrence under Wilcox. Good to win one we often lose and good to see the players keep fighting until the end and make the pkays to pull it out.

If Tosh follows Wilcox's path, then based on the "lose to the worst team" rule, Cal will lose the Big Game. Needless to say, I hope that doesn't happen.

Wow you are being negative. Big Game is Big Game, it is different. it is our biggest rivalry and has its own rules. Besides, Big Game is at Cal this year, but even Big Games on the Farm are hardly road games since there are usually more Cal fans than Stanford fans and we are alot louder. There is no chance we overlook Stanford. We are being lead by Cal guys. They will want the Axe back. Now, strange things happen in Big Games, but that falls under "rivalry games" not "annual lackluster uninspired loss on the road to a bad/the worst team in the conference."

So Wilcox losing at VT last year counts in this category, but his loss to Stanford doesn't, nor does his getting shut out at SDSU.

Blame my pessimism on my undergraduate experiences: Cal lost ever Big Game when I was an undergrad (thanks, Tom Holmoe!). I literally have no frame of reference of Cal winning a Big Game and parading the axe through any part of campus from a student's perspective.

It makes me jealous of Big Game victories that much more. But I also realize that just because Cal wants and should win a Big Game doesn't mean it will. The football gods are fickle and are just as likely to reward a crappy Furd team with a W as they are to award a better Cal team. That said, I expect the Cal squad to go out and play inspired ball to beat the Furd each and every time. Unfortunately, I've had my expectations dashed too many times.
