A lot of money was wasted putting this Cal team and coaching staff together. This is the worst loss in many seasons.

We have a ton of coaches, advisors and GMs, which has to be expensive. Better to buy quality, a few good coaches with clear responsibility and control. Spend the money on getting good players.

As bad as we are right now, we would be in a game with Oregon, Michigan, and a few other teams with lousy offenses

Given the depletion in the running backs, I think we need to use a full back if we're gonna try to run. We should take one of the tight ends and put them in the backfield to block.

letting SMU go on a 42-0 run to close the game is certainly a decision

My bad.

Maybe Michigan should have given up a 60 spot like your boy Tosh.

Indiana is a Top 10 team and only scored 13 including OT.

Maybe next week we can give up 60. Go big or go home.

"Your"? Do you mean "our" head coach?

But if you're not one of us, then why are you here? I think the answer involves living under a bridge.

Like so many other Cal seasons, we've reached a point in the season where the only game left of any potential interest is the big game, with the hope that maybe that one afternoon or evening we can put a competitive team on the field and have an enjoyable game, win or lose.

You know, I was originally thinking that the Tosh hire was like Holmoe, but now I think it might be like when WSU hired Paul Wulff and got blown the f*** out by every team with a pulse.

Only a 6 page Game thread in a game with 11 PENALTIES for 108 yards.

I wonder if there's a correlation there?

Cant wait for Tosh-speak at Tuesday's presser.

No chance. Much more likely to lose out and go 3-9.

Berkeley Bears are in the bowl, right now.

Tish-Tosh needs to get out on that country club golf course tomorrow and think about that $20+ million, guaranteed.

When Cal drew first blood it had the spread coveted by 25.5 points. At the end of the game SMU covered the spread by 20.5 points. That's a 46 point swing on the spread cover.

I'm getting light headed.

Ok, I saw the 22 minute highlights. We fell off a cliff.

Not to rip the scab off this but - people saying fire this guy? Nearly every major poster on this board WANTED this dude. And it wasn't a question of even making a decision. He was the only guy. There wasn't a choice.

You know how I know that no one is watching us? Not even SMU's fans went to the game in large numbers. Stadium looked half empty. And we are somehow eye candy to the B1G?

I'm not calling for the guy to be fired but, Rivera needs to look at this from the perspective of coaching skill. Not game knowledge. Coaching knowledge and skill. Does Tosh have it? If he doesn't, does he have the ability to learn? If the answer is no to either of those questions, then either put coaches next to him to call plays and run practices, or let him go. Give him the year and probably part of the next.

And from what I saw today - the timeline is off. We're not gonna get better in time for realignment. Our timeline is either staying in the ACC or relegation to the P12. Our only goal is to stay up if the ACC will have us.

Serious question: why would relegation to the P12 be so bad? We''re getting a raw deal from the ACC financially; we have no ties with any of those guys (we have more history with the teams in the P12 than any team in the ACC); it would cut down on our travel; it's not like we're going to be fighting for that P4 auto-bid any time soon; and I like our chances against the Utah States of the world. We'd be the tallest midget.

That's not how I remember it. I think there were always lots of people against the hire, but they were shamed for not supporting our wise and wonderful donors. I was always against the hire. First off, what he did to Cal fans when he was an assistant, submarining our recruiting class on the way out the door with one foot still in the Cal door, always felt disqualifying to me. I never bought the revisionist history narrative being spread that Tedford wasn't the victim; Tosh was. Tosh's real victims were the Cal fans. Second, I never read anything about Tosh that suggested he had the qualifications to be a good head coach. All we heard about was his recruiting prowess, which seemed out of step with the current NIL/transfer portal/money-talks era. What evidence was there that Tosh had the wisdom, leadership, and analytical skills needed to be a good head coach?

Which is exactly my point. When someone would write about what his qualifications were - they were shouted down with "he's a great recruiter". Oh, and, "he's a great recruiter". Any time anyone brought up his qualifications, it was ignored. Same with Rivera. I was one of his most vocal opponents. Three good seasons out of 13 as a head coach. And no qualifications as a GM. And the worst was all the apologetics around how he bailed on this program and took recruits with him. Nope. All was forgiven because he was the annointed one.

And I'm not arguing that he has the wisdom, leadership or coaching skill to be a head coach. After today's second half, there was no adjustment. No belief. Nothing. But this is what most everyone wanted.

I agree. I don't think it would be bad. I just feel there's some unrealistic peeps on this board that think we're B1G material. That's gone. History. If it ever was a goal.

Tallest midget? That's wishful thinking. How did we do against SDSU, Hawaii, and UNLV in our last G6 games? I know Tosh is only responsible for UNLV, but seriously, SERIOUSLY, what G6 conference does anyone think we would win or even get to their championship game?

We will be in the ACC for the foreseeable future. "If the ACC will have us" doesn't even enter into it; they already invited us and now we get a full vote in any decisions about membership. We're not voting ourselves out unless there's a better offer somewhere. That won't be anywhere besides the B1G, which is not happening because we have obviously not made a good enough case to get into that conference. We are getting a "raw deal" temporarily in the ACC but our payout share will rise over time and will be way better than what we could get in the new Pac-12.

Some schools might leave the ACC, but probably not enough to collapse the conference and then it'll just backfill and move forward. Yes, it will clearly be a second-tier league as compared to the B1G and SEC. Given our performance, that's where we belong.

Anyway, as to Tosh: I could see both positives and negatives about the hire when it happened and as I'm not a guy with a ton of money all I could do was accept it and hope that he would be the one to help make the program a consistent winner. It's looking like he isn't, so now I turn to hoping that Cal doesn't stick with the mistake for as long as it has with past coaching-hire mistakes. But again, I don't control the money so it is what it is. Hopefully the big donors are seeing what their money is buying them and will be making their displeasure known.
