Spam musubi:

Manpuku on College Ave has some pretty good ones, even if they're not exactly a Hawaiian place.

Other than that - maybe Spam and eggs as a breakfast staple at McDonald's restaurants in Hawaii. I remember going to a Hawaiian themed hotel/casino in Vegas (The California Hotel & Casino). They had a $5 all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet with all the standard Hawaiian favorites like scrambled eggs and portuguese sausage. However - they didn't have Spam. I think they might have been bankrupted by Hawaiians just unloading on Spam. They did have Spam musubi upstairs sold per piece.

When I cook it I fry it up chopped with onions, bell peppers and potatoes to be served with eggs in the morning. It's not bad.

Otherwise I mostly store it in my earthquake emergency supply kit.

I can honestly say that I don't believe its ever passed my lips... and I am comfortable keeping it that way..

Very sodium rich, but salty Spam can be a happy treat and food of all evil, especially when remote and hungry. The can is a problem.

1/ Slice it thin and fry like bacon or crumble and beat it with an egg scramble----add sweet peppers and/or cayenne, spinach or chopped tomatoes.

2/ Spam-san: Slicing it thin, pour two beaten eggs over it, and quick fry in butter or olive oil. Then add sauteed onion and garlic and butter, if you have it.

3/ Spam Reuben---grilled with onions, cheese and 1000 Island dressing with kraut on toasted bread. Throw in some slaw.

SPAM and egg sandwich. Fry like ham with over medium egg and on toast. The first dish I ever learned to cook.

Hmmmm,
Then how did you know it was fried like ham?

1. Open can
2. Insert fork
3. Remove "meat" from can while still impaled on fork:

SPAM-sicle!

Last time I cooked and ate spam was on the banks of Spicer's reservoir in the late 70's.
Served with melted Velveta Cheese on toasted Rainbow white bread with a canteen cup of orange Gumperts.
Yum Yum Yum

Fry some spam and a couple of sunny side up eggs. Eat with rice and kimchee.

1. Kimchi Soup Casserole w/ Spam
2. Spam Fried Rice
3. Spam Kim-bap (rice, spam, and cut veggies rolled in rice and seaweed)
4. Sapporo Ichiban ramen w/spam and sesame leaves
5. As mentioned above, spam and eggs

Besides Hawaiians, Koreans are huge consumers of Spam. So if you happen to be a Korean living in Hawaii...

So what is the recipe? I can't help asking because I am white and half German.

RARE!

(Sorry, couldn't resist.)

My other answer is: at a restaurant in Sacramento called Market Club. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes greasy spoons with character and good food. Breakfast and lunch only, cash only (but it's dirt cheap). It's on the way to South Tahoe just off the freeway . . . first exit after you cross the Sac river (5th street), turn right, go south 2-3 blocks past broadway, enter the sacramento wholesale produce market and it is literally in one of the loading docks. You can thank me later.

Not so much a recipe... just cook the ramen as usual, but when the noodles are close to being cooked, just add thinly sliced spam and sesame leaves (also sliced) into the soup. Let it cook/marinate a little and serve.

I'm there. I read the reviews on Yelp (pretty good) and I am pumped for a new experience.

if you've ever gone to Hawaii, you know it's the local food, but it's also popular in some Asian communities in California.

If you treat it like bacon - fried thin and crusty -- and use it in a sandwich with lettuce and tomato, mustard, it is very good and not as bad for you as bacon. Think -- bacon lite.

Recently saw Spam-a-Lot when it was in Sacramento. Wonderful!

And I like Spam. Have ever since I was stationed in Hawaii. And what's up with that?

If you think you like Spam, take it a step further and make a trip to Munich and order schweinshaxe---pork hocks and German beer, a holy trinity combination of beergartens, pork and a stein of lager.

Picture yourself sitting @ a window table in Munich---the Paulaner Restaurant in winter, or the outdoor beergartens at Lowenbrau in summer---the snowy winter or steamy summer---and a waitress places an enormous (16") stein of "Munich Hell" in front of you.

Moments later a very large tray laden with tender roast pork, red and white sauerkraut and potato salad is thumped down in the middle of your table, and the feasting begins.

More rounds of Hell---if the steins keep getting bigger and more frequent---no worry.

The scene will cause you to fantasize about spinning roast ham hocks in windows of Munich restaurants.

Say it with schweinshaxe and beer---ehh---but never eat anything larger than your head.
