I found it in Puerta del Sol in Madrid. Apparently it's a famous statue. I thought it was a nice sight and reminded me that football starts in <1week. Go bears!

The bear should be doing something else to that tree.... definitely should not be kissing it.

Well, the Bear, who is the symbol of Madrid, by the way, is not kissing the tree, but is partaking of its fruit. Photos of this statue have been posted here before.

By the way, the Bear recently moved. Here is TMI on the subject:

The Bear is eating the tree LINK

Quote:

The Arbutus unedo tree makes up part of the coat of arms (El oso y el madroo, The Bear and the Strawberry Tree) of the city of Madrid, Spain. In the center of the city (Puerta del Sol) there is a statue of a bear eating the fruit of the Madroo tree. The image appears on city crests, taxi cabs, man-hole covers, and other city infrastructure.

El Oso y El Madroo
The Puerta del Sol is also the location of the most famous symbol of Madrid: a 20 ton statue of a bear eating fruits from a tree. The official name of the statue is 'El Oso y El Madroo'. The Madroo is a tree related to the strawberry tree. The female bear symbolizes the fertile soil of Madrid and the tree symbolizes the aristocracy.

Yes, it is in Puerta del Sol. I looked it up after to find the bear's significance, which I did not know about before. Sorry about reposting the photo-- just amped for gameday! To me it looks like it is trying to knock the tree over.

Two years ago my son went to run with the bulls in Pamplona; and all he brought home was this lousy statue. Well, honestly it is a nice looking statue - the symbol of Madrid. Plus I liked the fact that it seems to be attacking a small tree.
