Jodie's - not cantonese, more classic hole in the wall food. Saturday am will have best fried chicken you ever ate. Off Solano Ave by the BART rail.

+1, Jodie's rules.

Also gotta rep Ann's Soup Kitchen (a lot closer to the stadium than Jodie's) for breakfast. I went there almost every weekend while I was in school. It got to the point where all I had to do was make eye contact with the owner as I walked in the door and she would put in my usual order. Ah, good times.

Shan Dong is about two blocks (+/-) from the front door of the building I work in.

I'd have to be a hermit not to know about Shan Dong.

One time in China I checked into a hotel called the "Long Dong Businessman's Hotel." Needless to say I was upgraded to a suite.

It's actually a Korean-Chinese restaurant, for those that know that cuisine. Obviously "Dong" doesn't have too much comedic value when said in Korean or Mandarin. Anyway, their black bean noodles (jajangmyun) are great.

Bake Sale Betty's on Telegraph near 51st.

Its neighbor 2-3 doors down Pizziolo (sp?)... best thin-crust pizza around, but not cheap (for pizza).

Pizziolo's cousin "Boot & Shoe Service" on Grand (near Grand Lake Theater).

The Cantonese restaurant in Oakland Chinatown that I used to frequent is Yung Kee. It's a dive, zero service or courtesy or decor, but tasty food and dirt cheap. And open at all hours of the night it seemed.
