Tosh Lupoi is italian-american? I always thought he was of polynesian descent based on his name. And it seems i'm not the only one who thought so either, haha.

Cal is blessed to have him on Staff.

You forgot to mention how Tosh made incriminating statements to an Oregon press reporter shortly after the game.

this. he went off the reservation and paid for it.

oh i think the DC and JT were in on it definetely. only tosh was the only one stupid enough to admit to it publically and therefore he paid the price.

I think faking the injuries was fine - but the execution was bad on that Tipoti one, where he got up and then got back down at the clear instruction of Tosh -
The reality is that PAC 10 really wanted Oregon in that title game - two BCS games is a lot of money.

Formal university reprimand which becomes part of Tosh's file wherever his career takes him, along with the cheater label.

i honestly don't think it had a material effect on the game and all the post game talk was about that and not our performance.

That's funny. I thought he was polynesian too!
I loved the article! He sounds like a great guy!

Great article too!

"He has a way about him," [former roomate Wendell] Hunter said, "where he can connect with people in all different walks of life."

"Absolutely," John Lupoi said. "I see more of my father in Tosh than in anyone else."

He's Italian, not Polynesian.

does anyone actually give a **** that our d-line faked some injuries in that game? i honestly don't care at all. only part that actually bothered me was the way our program handled it afterwards. Meh, in the past. Important thing is Tosh is still @ Cal and I hope we can keep him here.

Seems like lots of Cal fans are not bothered by the ethical baggage. Is it because the issues are in the past? Weren't considered significant enough to matter? Because there's another side to these stories? Or is it a "win at any cost" attitude?
1. Allegations of Impermissible Benefits to Recruits
The Allegation: Lupoi was investigated for allegedly providing $4,500 in cash payments to an associate of a recruit. These payments were supposedly used to cover the costs of private tutoring and online classes for the recruit to become academically eligible, which is a major violation of NCAA rules.
Outcome: Lupoi denied the allegations. While the University of Washington and Lupoi reached a mutual separation agreement, the NCAA later informed the school that it had completed its investigation and determined that "further action is not warranted," although they reserved the right to look into it again if new information surfaced.
2. Lack of Institutional Loyalty and Good Faith
While an assistant coach at the University of California, Berkeley (Cal), Lupoi reportedly acted in bad faith by allegedly using his position as a Cal recruiter to convince elite recruits to commit to the University of Washington, where he was rumored to be intending to become a coach. This raises ethical questions about loyalty and professional conduct.
3. Faking Player Injuries
In 2010, while at Cal, Lupoi was suspended for his role in instructing a nose tackle to fake an injury during a game against Oregon. The purpose was to try to slow down Oregon's fast, up-tempo offense. This constitutes a direct violation of sportsmanship and ethical competitive conduct
