Those SEC tutors are sure going to have to find new ways to disguise their increased cheating now.

Couldn't that change impact more than 90% of their student athletes?

Good one.

This will be good for the SEC. Admissions to SEC schools should be made more competitive, in my opinion. I fear, however, that it may increase the possibility of more acts of cheating in order to get athletes into school.

Uhh...you sure about that one buddy?

Florida is a decent school, but they have some of the lowest standards in the country when it comes to football and basketball.
Quote:

The University of Oklahoma and the University of Florida, whose football teams play Jan. 8 for the national championship, ranked near the bottom in standardized test scores. Florida's freshman football classes of 2002-04 ranked 50th in average score out of 53 schools for which football SAT averages were available, and Oklahoma's freshman football classes of 2001-03 ranked 42nd. Florida's football players ranked last in average high school GPA, at 2.54. The average for all football players in the study was 2.93.

Tim Tebow scored an 890 on the SAT, yet had a 3.7+ GPA at Florida and was an academic all American.

^ Is that top 10 SAT chart correct? Hard to imagine Stanford average being lower than some of those schools. Have to say I'm surprised at some of the schools. Very strange list. I could see going to Colorado and Hawaii due to the natural splendor, so maybe that's the draw for the (relatively) high SAT kids going there.

Private schools aren't on that list as it is info in the public domain

That's absolutely ridiculous! Next they'll try to make SEC players go near classrooms just like other students, instead of just hanging in the tutoring room where each player's personal pencil guider, crayon monitor, and handholder can certify his academic achievement.

Next I suppose the players will have to learn to sign their name to the cover of their bluebooks. Maybe block printing will suffice; anything more would be cruel.

Thanks - that makes sense and explains the absence of certain schools like Miami.

This is good for the SEC. You can't cheat from a 1.5 to a 2.5 Players will be forced to study harder and spend more time in the class room instead of the streets.

The SEC comish proposed that the NCAA raise requirements from 2.0 to 2.5, not the SEC unilaterally, and that student-athletes make ongoing progress during all 4 years of high school. He also wanted to re-instate partial qualifiers for those who meet current NCAA requirements but fail the tougher ones. The last time any such proposal was made it died amidst heavy charges of racism. I believe in this instance, the notion that partial qualifiers can still be admitted with relaxed requirements may serve to blunt some of that criticism. He also proposed making all scholarships 6 years rather than year-to-year, so schools couldn't "rent" players. Spurrier, of course, was opposed, although apparently some SEC presidents were supportive.

I think that you got it wrong. I heard it was being raised from a 1.0 to a 1.5 GPA (if you are a starter).
Or am I thinking of Oregon?
