Another offseason (football season, that is) topic: What are the best looking major league baseball uniforms? Bear Insiders have never been shy about expressing opinions on uniforms, Cal's and other schools, and many if not most on this board are also baseball fans. For the purpose of this issue, consider home light color uniforms only, and only current uniforms (as there have been some hideous ones in the past). This is of course a very subjective topic so personal bias is certainly expected.

My list, in no particular order:

Giants. Ok, actually this one is in order, as I am a hard core Giants fan. I especially like the cream instead of bright white home uni's.

Dodgers. As a Giants fan I don't care for the Dodgers but they have always had very classy uniforms, easily one of the best in either league.

Cardinals. One of the most beautiful uniforms, especially the little cardinal.

Pirates. Only recently on this one since they have returned to their old classic look. I am very much a traditionalist and I am glad to see some teams returning to the old ways. The Pirates in particular had some hideous uniforms in the 70's and 80's so it's good to see them go back to the older days.

Reds. Same for the Reds, they have returned to the old days.

Phillies. Not exactly a return to the old days but still nice looking.

Notice a pattern? No American League teams. I don't watch the American League teams so I don't have any strong opinions. I guess if I had to I would say the Red Sox are ok. Naturally, there are many A's fans on this site. I guess there's are okay, but for me the white shoes negate everything. As a traditionalist should I like the Yankees? No! They're the Yankees, the USC of baseball.

Anyway, that's my list.

As a Dodgers fan, I have to agree with both of these uniform picks, for the exact same reasons. The cream is classic, and I always enjoy blue on uniforms.

As for American League teams... the new Rays uniform is very nice.

Dodgers home colors and Yankee pinstripes.

The best uniform cuts and look were the old, loose, flannel ones. Wish those would come back. There's plenty of cold weather days in the season to wear those.

I can't stand today's long pants leg look.

+1. Cards and Dodgers are No. 1 and No. 2, respectively in terms of unis. Third place is in the far distance. I hate the Yankees, and that extends to their uniforms.

In general, I think MLB teams these days have pretty decent-looking uniforms, if you only look at the standard home whites and road grays and don't count some of the stupid alternate jerseys. Most of the best are classic looks:

Cardinals, Dodgers, Giants, Yankees, Cubs, White Sox, Red Sox

At the bottom I'd probably put the Astros, D-Backs, Padres, and the Indians for keeping that racist caricature of a logo around. EDIT: Oh, and the Jays are at the bottom too.

Giants have gotten better since moving to Pac Bell. I think the cream doesn't really add anything to the uniform (if anything, it's a drawback IMO), but getting away from that ridiculous uniform where the G and the S were larger and going to a more classic lettering was a large improvement for them. I wouldn't say I love their uniforms, but they are not the eyesore they have been for most of the time that I was a fan.

I'd have to disagree about the 80s Giants uniforms you disliked so much; I think it was a solid look. Not as good as the uniforms they have now, but not bad either.

Now there was a time when the Giants had awful uniforms, but it was the 70s so nearly every other team did too:

The A's All Whites with the whites shoes is the best look in baseball.

I have always liked the San Diego Padres' new uniforms; the navy blue and gold. I also like the Tampa Bay Rays' unis, and even though I hate them with a passion, I like the Yankees' classic uniforms.

I like the Atlanta Braves' uniforms most of all, but I am a little biased; I'm a Braves fan.

Totally disagree with Astros and Diamondbacks. Color schemes are excellent.

They are not terrible, but someone has to be at the bottom. I hate the lettering on the D-Backs uniforms; it's way overdone.

Also, personally I don't think the color schemes are anything special. If anything, too many teams wear red as primary color now.

This is the first time this sentence has ever been said/written. The white cleats are horrendous.

There's almost an unwritten rule about wearing white cleats in baseball: YOU SIMPLY SHOULDN'T

A few years ago I had a really old school coach (he played for the Braves but his roster sport was replaced to make room for Hank Aaron to give you an idea of how old he is), and he called white cleats an abomination. The reason being that players are supposed to polish their shoes before every game. You can't do that with white cleats and white cleats look like their wearing socks.

I'm not sure why the some of the A's do it but I think it has something to do with them being the renegades of baseball for a time (Rollie Fingers, Catfish Hunter, Bash Brothers etc).

C'mon. Home unis should be white. Cream is neither classic nor classy, just someone's attempt to be trendy. They always look dirty.

disagree completely here. Although I am an A's fan, the Giants' cream is a great look. And it is definitely NOT "trendy," it is the original (i.e., from New York) color, and the color they came to SF with in 1958.

I also agree that the Dodgers' unis are classic, I like the Tigers' D, and I'm partial to the Red Sox for the old style lettering and piping.

Yup.....good old Charlie Finley started the white cleats...but that isn't all. The A's are also the only major league team which has green as a primary color... I actually like their white pants, gold shirts which are brand new this year....they look pretty cool .....

Longtime A's fan myself and I love the green & gold along with the white.. As for the white cleats, I barely notice them. That said, I'd be perfectly fine if they switched to black.

Agree! Few players wear the traditional socks anymore, most look like they came to the game in their jogging sweats.

If it were trendy, then other teams would be doing it. It's a deliberately classic look.

As for the A's . . . though I don't think they have one of the best looking uniforms, I do think their standard home whites and road grays are solid, and I do appreciate that they are still using colors that no one else uses and still making it look pretty good. The yellow throwback jerseys are pretty cool; I probably wouldn't like them if they were the main uniforms, but as alts they are a fun change-up. On the other hand, they could junk the green tops and I wouldn't miss them.

Both of them are more of a brick color and a sand type color I think it's sharp- especially the Astros. I like all of their unis.

Tend to agree on the Native American logo issue, but I gotta tell you guys, in my area where Pueblo, Apache and Navajo have lots of visibility and influence, they seem to like that cartoon Cleveland Indians logo. They find it humorous. Softball teams will wear it. Surprised me big time.

Charlie Finley knew how to market. The Swingin A's of the 1970's were the best team and the best dressed. My Babe Ruth league team ordered those uniforms in 1974. They were so popular that they were backordered. Before the next season started, we had moved and I never got to wear them.

Strangely, they're the only ones of the more modern uniforms I've ever liked. After those unis, it's all classics. Dodger blue, the Cardinals, and, as much as I hate to admit it, Yankee pinstripes.

My favorite uniforms

Giants (classy look)
Tampa Bay (it just works for some odd reason)
Mariners (the blue and teal just appeals to me, same reason why I like the Seahawks unis as my favorite)
Dodgers (blue and white, despite my bias against them, looks good)
Boston (a more traditional look)

My least favorite
Oakland (although Green and silver looks good)
Phillies
Rangers
Kansas City
Yankees
