You are right. Deltha had nothing to do with the '93 game.
But I vividly remember him dropping a sure interception to ice a game against Washington.....

I don't remember that play, but I looked at the media guide and see we lost a close game to UW at home in 1999 (Deltha's senior year). IIRC, that was the game we had a lead late and Tuiasosopo led the Huskies down the field to clinch the win. We sure did find a lot of different ways to lose to UW between 1976 and 2002!

Oh yah 2001 - first game after 9/11 I believe, we had UW in a hole then gave it up late. Then we were driving for the game winning TD or FG. We had to go for it at mid-field on 4th and 7 or something. Boller made a nice pass to Chase Lyman beyond the first down marker. Chase tries to razzle dazzle and goes backwards and gets tackled. Game over. Good times.

Yup that was it. Thanks 86Oski.
So my memory is not totally defunct.

Found info at calbears site that had post game quotes:

Coach who shall not be named had this to say
On the secondary:

" We were in man coverage quite a bit. We were close. It is unbelievable how close this game is. Deltha (O'Neal) has the ball go off his hands for the victory - that is how close these games are. He catches it, we run the clock out."

That 1993 Oregon game was one of the greatest college football comebacks ever. Dave Barr is my favorite Cal QB ever. So calm, cool and collected in the pocket. This is another year we would have gone to the RB but for some fateful circumstance (Barr and Zomalt both going down in a game where we had UW 24-3 late in the 3rd quarter). *SIGH*

That was a great Cal team that suffered a few consecutive losses due to the key injuries. By the end of the season they were the best team in the Pac 10 (in other words, while they didn't have the best record they could have beaten any other team in the conference) and went on to shock the CFB world with a shellacking of a decent Iowa team in the Alamo Bowl.

I could have sworn the last pass was to Caldwell, but maybe that's my aging synapses not firing on all cylinders.

For what it's worth, I swear it was Caldwell as well.

Ouch! I remember that play. IIRC Deltha was falling backwards but still had the ball in his hands. Less than a second to go from elation over finally ending the jinx against Washington to the anguish and dread that once again the mangy curs were going to pull out yet another one against us.

The pass was to Treggs. Sadly, after all these years I remember this clearly. I also remember the entire stadium giving a standing O to both teams. Seems like that lasted forever. To this day, I have never seen a crowd do that nor have I witnessed one which was so loud. Husky fans were very polite and gracious that day and I still cannot believe how many players on those two teams went Pro.

From the Huskies:

"On the final play, Pawlawski lofted a pass to Brian Treggs at the goal-line, but cornerback Walter Bailey managed to tip the ball away to end the game."

To make the 1999 Washington game even more painful, even if Deltha had hung on to the ball and Cal had run out the clock, the win would have been forfeited thanks to the eligibility shenanigans involving Ainsworth and Davenport.
