and Carl Moore was there working out. He was the 5-star JC receiver from Rancho Cordova, CA that went to Florida instead of Cal. I thought he was going to go the the NFL, but from the looks of things he wasn't drafted. He was working out hard. He had on a Florida Gators shirt. I had on a Cal shirt. He saw my shirt and a scowl briefly crossed his face.

I find it disappointing that he and Verran Tucker were in the same recruiting class, with Moore being much more highly rated, yet Tucker is in the league while Moore is back at home.

I wish recruits wouldn't make decisions based on hype. Florida did not and does not run a pro-style offense. (See Tebow, Tim) Cal doesn't get the hype in the NCAA, but the players get rewarded by the NFL for playing in a pro-style system. Do you hear that Oregon recruits?

Regardless, I wish Moore the best and hope he gets a shot at the League. He is a local guy.

As a Cal grad I'm sure you were putting up more weights than him and with more reps too.

For any college that runs a pro-style offense, this should be among their top selling points, and repeated ad nauseum after watching FSU's Christian Ponder become the 12th overall pick in the draft this year.

Haha. He was doing core work with dumbells. I was doing chest/shoulders/triceps and cardio.

He was 6'3 212 during his senior year at Florida. I am 6'4 255. He is definitely more cut than I am -- but he is 22 and I am a 38-year old attorney. I am nowhere near as good a shape as he is in.

With the state of our QB play, we arent exactly an ideal destination for WR recruits. Besides that Florida has sent plenty of WRs to the NFL recently despite their spread offense including Louis Murphy, Percy Harvin, Riley Cooper, and Andre Caldwell.

Tucker may have had the last laugh (NFL) but Moore did win a national title at Florida...

Sure, Florida has sent receivers to the League. But these receivers were amazing talents that would have gone to the League no matter what. They went to the NFL in spite of playing in a spread offense.

Rivals ranked Percy Harvin as a 5 star; the #1 ranked recruit in the nation at any position in 2006.

Rivals ranked Andre Caldwell as a 5 star; the #4 ranked recruit in the nation at any position in 2003.

Scout ranked Louis Murphy as a 4 star and the 10th best receiver in the nation.

Rivals ranked Riley Cooper as a 4 star and the 10th best receiver in the nation in 2006.

Verran Tucker is not in that category yet he is in the league.

And one to Cal, Boateng.

I remember watching him when he went to Sierra JC, thats guy was seriously put together, but I also remember former CCSF DB, Nebraska Cornhusker and now a washington redskin, Dejon Gomes taking him completely out of the Nor Cal championship, I mean shut him down!!!!!

There are no givens. There are just as many 5*s that bust as there are that make it to the league.

I never said that 5 stars automatically make it to the league. Carl Moore himself was a star recruit.

The percentage of 5 stars that make it to the league is much better than the percentage of four stars or three stars that make it to the league.

We've all heard the "stars don't matter argument." I disagree with it.

It's the same with 1st rounders panning out, you can be drafted #1 (jawalrus) and SUCK. You could also be a 199th overall pick (Brady) and be a future HOFer.

But you made a far better college choice than he did and he'll pay for that mistake the rest of his life.

Didn't Urban Myer role in getting Florida's gymnastic coach to offer Carl's girlfriend a scholarship played a big part in Carl's decision to go to Florida?

Didn't Cal have 5 star Hawkins and Jackson on the same team? Cal recruited fairly well at WR and put guys in the League until a young position coach was appointed (admttedly, recruiting Allen last year was impressive). I expect WR recruting to be consistently better now that Kiesau is back.
