As you all know, the new SC forum has some new rules.....and after reading them, I'm at a loss for what they are going to post about now....LOL... take away the profanity, bashing Haden, Larry Scott and just about everyone else, I"m afraid they are going to have to write about football in a civilized way. If they can't attack other posters, well, they'll lose their identity... I give them 3 months or so until they are all banned......:rollinglaugh:

The forums are an open place to exchange opinions and ideas. They are NOT a place in which to attack or abuse anyone associated with USC, anyone associated with ESPN, or any other posters on this forum or any ESPN forum.

Here are some general guidelines to ensure a positive experience and a sense of community on the forums.

1. No profanity. This includes abbreviations for curse words, inserting other symbols for certain letters of a curse word, etc. If it can be interpreted as a curse word, don't use it.
2. No pornographic material. This includes posting obscene material, linking to obscene material, and/or using obscene material in an avatar or signature.
3. No racist or sexist comments. Again, if it can be interpreted as racist or sexist, don't use it.
4. No attacks on players, coaches, administrators, etc. Constructive criticism is allowed and welcomed. Just be careful to contain it to what actually transpires on the field and not make it personal. When it goes beyond the scope of the field or the court, it's not something that should be posted.
5. No posting of gossip regarding players, coaches, administrators, etc. If you have a legitimate news tip, the contact information for the writers of this site is easy to find. Posts that have no basis in fact will be removed.
6. No attacking recruits. If a player chooses another school, that doesn't give you the right to criticize him.
7. No attacking other posters. Stick to the topic and don't allow it to become personal. If it does, you could be banned. It's fine to disagree; it's not fine to attack the other poster or make them a target for harassment just because you disagree.
8. No flaming. If your posts are done only to agonize and they don't further any discussions, the posts will be deleted and you'll be subject to being banned.
9. No spamming.
10. No posting of commercial offers.
11. No posting on political topics.
12. No posting any material that violates any right of a third party or any law. This includes posting of premium information from other web sites.
13. Do not give out your personal information on the forum. We are not responsible for any actions that occur as a result of you making the decision to divulge personal information such as your email address, phone number, address, etc. If you do, do so at your own risk.
14. No phishing. Do not attempt to get posters to reveal personal information such as email addresses. This can subject you to being banned.
15. Terms of use. You can read ESPN's Terms of Service for subscribers here -

yeah...the "no flaming" and "no political threads" stuff would cause a bit of withdrawal around here.....I agree about the profanity thing but you can't even use abbreviations, like GTFO etc.....that would be a tough nut..

Just ask the SEC, and the Securities and Exchange Commission: just because they write rules don't mean that they need to be enforced.

Here are some good examples of the new SC threads.....

Testing ESPN's Willingness to Tolerate Moderate Dissent

This is my first post here and I hope it is not my last, but I am skeptical of ESPN's moderation and am going to see if I should even bother getting used to this new forum. I am incredibly appreciative of WeAreSC.com's staff and want to support them, but have serious concerns about ESPN's moderation.

I think ESPN (among others) unfairly profit from college athletes' efforts and are hurting the game.

I think Craig James is one of the worst representatives college football could have. He has now proved it on two occasions.

I think ESPN violates news ethics by generating news, instead of reporting it.

I think their favoritism towards certain teams and regions will further destroy the state of college athletics.

I think most of ESPN's commentators are empty talking heads that simply assume roles to generate debate. Valuable insights and critical analysis are not products they offer.

If this is breaking your rules of decorum, then please ban me now.

Sincerely,

TrojanEconomist

serious qestion for the mods...
I must re-ask these questions as a previous thread was deleted from a different ESPN forum without an answer or an explanation.

Are we allowed to criticize the SEC? What about inbred southerners in general? What about ESPN analysts like that one guy who used to coach at FU who was hired so that he can spew all the anti-USC, anti-PAC12, anti-west coast vitriol that ESPN loves? Can we use initials to save space while typing? Like C.U.M. for Coach Urban Meyer? Thanks in advance!

There will be a migration to a new board shortly...the actual message board design is about 5 years out of date as well.

Didn't that happen to this board as well when "Grey Bear" decided to switch his product over to ESPN? And we all followed.

I was going to have some fun with the espn wesuc site, but ToejamAl and TroganWarrior are already registered ESPN usernames.

Nah, the board finally joined the modern day when it came to technology with that move.

There are some nice features to the site, but overall it's a negative I think.

I must admit, I hope SC gets another board..I refuse to visit that trash board. I always go down there to read what they're whining about..now I got nowhere to go. Its on par with 24/7.

These dingbats. As of this moment, if you go to:

http://www.wearesc.com/

You get the front page you expect. But if you go to the menu to go to the football forum, it sends you to this URL:

http://wearesc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=3

Which gives you the generic ISP "file not found" page with automatically generated generic USC links.

They're losing people who might not have visited recently and don't know that they were moving.

(Of course by the time you read this post, it may be fixed already)

I also hope that someone starts a decent independent board that gains some traction. I have no problem with more freewheeling boards like Shaggy Bevo.

Wow, if you go to the main ESPN site, go to the USC team page, then click on the Forum tab, you get this forum:

http://espn.go.com/college-football/team/forum/_/id/30/usc-trojans

which is not We Are SC, which is here:

http://espn.go.com/colleges/usc/forums/_/topic/trojan-football

So what's the point of being not only ESPN affiliated, but actually at espn.go.com, if there's no way to find the forum, and ESPN itself competes with you? Plus the forum itself is terrible.

If I were a USC fan I would be so completely :headbang :headbang :headbang

And what would happen to the Bear Insider forum under the same rules? No criticism of Tedford? No more personal attacks between Bear fans here? The Bear Insider forum is not much different then WeAreSC forum to any objective observer.

I see you started a thread to take down the rules......why is that?

http://espn.go.com/colleges/usc/forums/_/topic/trojan-football#!/topic/1314101377-732-945

All boards have some dissension and criticism but your board has more attacks on just about everyone than any other board I've seen besides maybe the TAMU site against Texas....in this case, I'm somewhat on your side....the rules are too prohibitive for my tastes...the main difference is that we're not allowed to use profanity though that is easy to get around...plus as much as we sometimes bash each other, it was never to the extent that you guys did it.....besides, we actually have some intellectual discussions about other topics of a cerebral nature which you never see on the old WeAreSC board unless SColdtimer writes something prolific....

They have some guys over the top (like the good doctor on the Furd site), but WEARESC is by far the best site outside BI. Very imformative, with knowledgable (albeit biased, like we are for Cal) posters. It would really s@ck if the move constrained the flow of information and thoughts.
