I really like that Maynard appears to be fairly accurate throwing 30-40 yards downfield. For a Tedford coached team this is vital because it takes away the defense that has been so successful against Cal since 2007. If teams put 8-9 in the box like they did the last few years, Cal can now again throw long and catch them in 1v1 coverage. Marvin Jones and Keenan Allen are a bit too good to lose many of those battles.

Definitely a good sign.

I'm more concerned with the O-line in that drive. Fresno State was getting way too much penetration. Tedford needs to adjust the play calls for that, but its clear that Maynard struggles with screen passes.

I'm a little concerned with the defense...but there are some new guys so they will gel i"m sure..

Maynard had someone open on that 3rd down play, but he didn't see him.

Defense still stout, but helped by Fresno looking a little out of synch, (few too many dropped passes). Time for the offense to regain that earlier magic.
