Jason King thinks Kansas is better than Texas Tech for PAC-16?

Jason King proposes that bball trumps fball in his latest rant on yahoo. Am I missing something or is he a delusional bball fan? He validly claims Baylor and TCU are stronger fball program than TT, but that could change in a heart beat with a legit QB. It would be cool to see Kansas take on Cal, but the economic that drives these decisions isn't going to let it happen. I didn't provide a link, since this is a rivals.yahoo article. But, what does everyone think of Kansas bball versus Texas Tech fball every couple of years?

we'd gladly take Kansas but Texas and Tech are a package.

Haven't heard his argument, but getting Kansas over TT would make a lot of sense. Texas Tech doesn't bring much - not a big media market, and if you get UT you will be in every home with cable/satellite in Texas, so adding TT is redundant.

Kansas adds a another state to your footprint, another million or so homes, and even a national following in basketball - which is big.

Me too..and the consensus is that UT and TTU are partners and always will be.. but lately, I'm not so sure...remember how surprising Larry Scott can be?.. There might be some surprises in store that not many thought about. I've actually seen rumors from guys who are not just internet warriors that if Texas balks, it could be OU, OSU, Kansas and Missouri.....not saying it is but some competent people have said it is a possibility.

Are you asking what I prefer, or what's best for the conference?

I guess I'd prefer T Tech. I don't see them as a major threat to Cal in either hoops for football. Kansas would be easier to dominate in football, but tougher to compete with in basketball.

As has been noted a million times already: realignment is all about revenue maximization. And therefore, it's all about football. If we need TT to bring UT aboard, then we're getting TT.

Lastly, I really hope Texas is left out of the PacNN. If they get in and start causing trouble on the revenue sharing front, then we're going to have trouble with U$C, and possibly UCLA. We can't count on Pat Haden to be the $C AD forever.

Texas legislature will be a big enough pain in the ass for us not including Baylor. We almost 100% HAVE to take Tech to get them to sign off.

Texas is also going to want another Texas school so those hippy california schools don't run roughshod over them :rollinglaugh:

People said that about A&M last year, too. You never know.

Texas legislature currently has no plans to get involved.

Quote:

But State Senator Judith Zaffirini, the chairwoman of the Senate Higher Education Committee, said in a telephone interview Sunday that the Senate had no plans to get involved in conference expansion. A hearing before the Texas legislature's House Committee on Higher Education about Texas A&M's potential move to the SEC was canceled. Zaffirini said she saw no potential political roadblocks for a Texas move to the Pac-12.

"I don't see that happening at all at this point," she said. "I have absolutely no intent of calling a hearing at this time."

....and Gov. Perry said the same thing....that it was up to the schools and he wasn't getting involved...

The Senate Higher Education committee is a very, very small percentage of the Texas legislature. You can be sure that there will be a lot of Texans writing to their legislators, and not all of them will sit idly.

Kansas is better than Tech in virtually every way imaginable. Imagine Tech without the Mike Leach years and what do you have? (Answer: Washington State).

Tech and Tx are at the hip...unless the B12 implodes first, then maybe they aren't. I really don't care for the megaconferences but it if must happen then our best scenario probably is for AtM to leave, the Okies to announce they are leaving thereafter and for Tx to be in a position where it can say the conference is dead. Tech could probably find a soft landing in the Big East, giving TCU a regional rival.

A potentially big reason for Tx to want to move solo is it would mean they keep solo content on the Tx regional network. It would have to be rebranded and the $ would have to be shared. But if getting 100% content would probably be enough cover to allow them to justify giving up the other stuff.

Except girls. Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy prettier girls. Lubbock is a dump but fun to party in. They sell out their stadium every week so 60k fans puts them on par with the biggest teams in the Pac.

The smell of cow crap blowing in from the west Texas plains is pretty nasty though.

Hell, the way things are going right now it's possible you could get ATM instead of TT. You can't make this shizzat up...

Can you really smell the cows from the Stadium?

Tiny nit... they don't quite sell out all their games. They average 57K last year, which is solid... and way more than Kansas... but it would put them below Washington, Oregon, CAL, UCLA and USC.

I think Kansas would be a much better fit for the PAC Something.

If the wind is blowing from the west, you most definitely can smell the cows.

Not arguing that Kansas would be a better fit but I don't think they are realistic unless Texas/Tech are out of the picture.

I don't see the LHN getting many football games other than the bodybag FCS games. Most other teams will want their games on a cable channel that their fans can actually see.

Everyone assumes that the 2 Okies and UT and TT will look to the Pac once TAM is gone. Why does everyone seem to discount the idea of the SEC going after OU, OSU, and Texas to fill out their 16? In some ways it would be a better fit, and while I get it that OU and UT want access to California, joining the SEC would make it a totally dominant conference (and make ESPN wet itself).

They have 2 games now, 1 more than other B12 members thought they were going to have (which is allegedly part of the beef), so I agree football isn't going to be a big factor vis a vis LHN content. Somehow UT fans - at least the ones on their boards - seem to think watching re-runs of 10 year old football games, re-runs of coaches shows, baseball and olympic sports is pretty important and cool (I think that really means branding and money matter but is expressed as T3 sports content).

I'd love to have a Cal Bears Network that showed reruns of old games. I just wouldn't want to kill the Pac-12 to get it.

we are left to guessing what is really going on. I trust Larry Scott to manage the Pac-12's interests in this second go-around with the big-12 schools. Texas is wearing out it's welcome, TT is tied to Texas and the Oklahoma schools are showing independence from Texas - nobody wants Baylor.

Will Larry Scott take just the Oklahoma schools for the Pac-14? Is there an opportunity for other schools - Missouri and/or Kansas, or?????? Could TaMU be a surprise contestant with Texas out of the picture?

I believe that this is Texas's last chance to join the Pac - enough is enough...IMO.
