Heard JT and others say it before, still find it puzzling...

is not that he hated green and gold, but that he wanted Nike. Phil Knight has enormous influence over college recruiting, and anyone who doesn't realize that has his head in the sand.

what was even more surprising was hearing Goldman say he really liked Maryland's uni's...

Its pretty apparent though if your choosing a school for its colors, your a future underwater basketweaving major.

I like this quote:

Quote:

I don't like green and gold. That's ugly. When you got ugly colors like that, you gotta be Nike

Sounds like he would not reject Oregon based solely on their colors.

He was being clear that it is a combination of factors. If it's a great program, then the wrong sponsor or colors is not a deal-killer. But if it's not one of the elite programs, they gotta have something else to be appealing, and Baylor had two strikes right there.

Are we sure that one of Phil Knight's minions didn't "suggest" to him that he'd be better off at a "Nike school?"

Team Nike or Team Addidas....

If you wonder about basketball recruiting ...

If the NCAA ever gets its act together, this is next big scandle. AAU players are "steered" to their AAU shoe company's college schools. I guess the NCAA's focus presently on kids making small dollars off selling bowl goodies, as opposed to taking on the big money in AAU shoe teams. :sarc:
