For those of you who do not regularly ride BART or Muni, and are going to schlep to AT&T for the first time this season (or others who do not Clipper), the Clipper card makes traveling the system much easier. Check out clipper.com.

Muni has recently added portable Clipper apparatus at the Muni stop at AT&T. Just tap, and you're good!

I use it regularly on three systems--Golden Gate Transit, Muni and BART.

I thought you were talking about the L.A. Clippers, Mama Bear. But I should have known, since no one "considers" them.

Clipper is sweet pass, though for a seniors' clipper (green) pass at this time requires going to a transit center (AC Transit Downtown Oakland, 16th & Franklin in the East Bay).

It not only saves $$Big, it saves time passing through the gate---just wave and walk. St Peter will love ya. Hallelujah!

I bought two Clipper cards today at a Walgreen's (primary retail vendor for Clipper cards in the Bay Area) in downtown Oakland near where I work. I loaded $10 on each card, $20 total.

For a limited time, there is no charge to get a Clipper Card provided you add at least $5 in cash value or a pass or ridebook. There is no indication when this "limited time" will expire.

Using a Clipper card to pay your BART fare will entitle you to a 25 cents discount when transferring to a Muni line within 1 hour of exiting the BART system in downtown SF.

For instance, if you take BART to the Embarcadero Station, exit BART, and then enter the Muni system also at Embarcadero, you will get a 25 cents discount provided you used the same Clipper card on both legs of your trip.

Similarly, you get the same 25 cents discount on the reverse trip.

DD: Please explain the change in handle to "Fiat Slug." You have me, and presumably others, confused.

It is a UC Santa Cruz reference - let there be slug - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_California,_Santa_Cruz

I am a graduate of UC Santa Cruz. On the old GoBears listserv my sig was my actual name followed by my alma mater and class year.

For about 4 months now, I have been thinking about the possibility of changing my screen name from my actual name to something else. Shortly after I started thinking about the possibility I chose my new screen name. The only question was whether or not I would actually do so.

Ultimately, I chose to change my screen name to something that did not identify me personally for a variety of reasons that are personal. I decline to discuss those reasons because they affect no one here, except me. Suffice it to say that achieving certain milestones in life tends to change one's perspective on issues that are often very personal. In looking back on my life, this is one area in which I might have chosen a different path originally if my perspective had been ... wiser.

It's advertised as "Tap" and go. Well, when I "tap" my clipper card, I get an error message and have to wait 10 seconds and have another go - not too nice when you have a line of people behind you. Instead of "tapping" the card, make sure you HOLD the card to the right spot for at least 1-2 full seconds. Then you may pass through the gates.

Hey, don't forget CalTrain (which goes right up to AT&T's front door). For those of us in the peninsula and south bay areas, Clipper on CalTrain works like a voodoo charm. I used it a couple times en route to Giants games.

Be careful that the way you load money onto the card is a little confusing. You can use Clipper to get $48 of BART fare that you only pay $43 for, but those funds can't be used for CalTrain or MUNI....you create a separate bank of funds (called "E-Cash") on your card for that.
