Up here in the PNW the UW/NE game was on. Not sure if it was on in the bay area. In case it wasn't...

The game got away from UW thanks to Special Teams and bad officiating. There was a sequence with a phantom call on a punt that negated a NE turnover, a debatable/tough ST call on the next punt that gave NE favorable field position and a fumbled KO at the goal line that was recovered by NE. To their credit they kept playing hard and made the score more respectable at the end.

Nebraska ultimately won with their physical OL play. They wore down UW's front 7 and pretty much ran at will. We aren't going to do the same thing.

Price has talent. Think Locker but slightly more passing and slightly less running. He missed some throws today - suspect that is the result of an inexperienced guy playing in a hostile environment - but you can see that he has some of the 'it' factor. He appears to have two bad knees...not sure what's going on with that but he was hobbling around pretty good by the end of the game.

They are a fast, physical team. They definitely have talent on O. I'm not too sure about their front 7. They are well coached. After watching them I feel worse about our chances than I did before today.

I think the coaching will decide this game......

Saw the game also and agree. We'll have to be a lot sharper than today but expect we will for a Pac 12 game. Sarkesian has definitely increased the talent level so they look to be continuing on the way up. This will be a big test for our secondary against talented receivers and the QB Price who can make the throws and move away from pressure as well (if his knees are OK). No question this will be a tougher road game than Colorado - going to have to bring our A+ game or go home disappointed. But I have a feeling this group is going to show that they are resilient on the road, like last week. Go Bears!

I got a feeling it will be one of those games we "should" have won, but we'll shoot ourselves in the foot. I actually think our defense is a little better than theirs. They have an offense that should put a lot of points up on us though. We can't lose the turnover battle in this game and win. Can Zach avoid the big pick?

If the Bears win then Tedford's a better coach than Sarkisian?

Zach....doesn't panic so much as feels that he has to do something with the ball in the backfield when the passdoesn't appear to be there.....he has a bad interception habit.....he will get pick in the UDub game....if not, in the oregon and u$c games....he has to learn to just throw the damn ball out of bounds....It doesn't look like tedford is helping Maynard unlearn his bad street ball habit.......

Our D is definitely better. Their offense is very good, but Price got hurt and was hobbling terribly at the end. If he plays he won't be too mobile..

Most teams that give up 51 points aren't particulary fearsome. I think there are maybe two good teams in this conference and everyone else is capable of beating anyone. I figure we clinched a bowl bid today. Three more wins in this conference should be easy-four or five more, quite possible.

Assuming a healthy Price, we lose.

They might be quite dinged up after this game. There were several players that looked to be hurt at some point during this game:

Price
their MLB Dennison, the leader of their defense
Johnson, their 3rd best WR
Fuimaono, their starting OLB
and their starting safety missed the game as well.

It'll be interesting to watch the injury reports throughout the week and see what the impact could be on next week's game. They did play very well in a very tough atmosphere, and I agree they got absolutely robbed on a few plays there that would've made a huge difference in the game, but at this point I feel the biggest thing holding our team back is the lack of discipline and abundance of penalties. If we can clean that up, I like what we can do on both sides of the ball and really like our chances next week, even though it's gonna be in one of the toughest places to play in the West, against a team with a bunch of young talent and against one of the best young coaches in the country.

Really? You just showed bias and racism in one sentence. Congrats- you are finally relevant. That's a step up from the ignorant and just plain weird posts that you normally have!

how is that racism? the "street ball" term was something that was used in an article about maynard published last week.

UW is nothing special and if we're just a middle of the PAC team, then we should beat them.

Let's face facts, it's Cal.

They could win, and they could lose next week by 40 points.

At first I was going to say, "this team is different. We won't let that happen this year."

But it could easily happen. Maynard already takes a lot of risks. Down by 2+ touchdowns, you could see him pressing too hard and throwing a bunch of picks. Combine that with the defense having a Colorado-type day, and things get ugly real fast.

I think that thread from a couple of days ago was right on the money. The UW game will be a big swing game. Win, and it sets us up for a decent bowl, and perhaps a really good one. Lose, and we lose any momentum we had from the 3-0 start. IMO, UW is a middle of the pack Pac 12 team, even this year when everyone other than the Bay Area teams has stumbled coming out of the gate. Beating UW in Seattle would really be a huge thing for Cal, and for Tedford.

Summed it up perfectly. UW is the key to the rest of the season.

I think the biggest factor is that UW will be more beat up after the Nebraska game, which may give us a slight edge.

We basically played these guys even up last year while gaining less than 100 yards passing. This year's Cal team is better than last year's offensively and seems about the same defensively. Yeah we suck on the road. Still think we win; BI posters get Kool-Aid delirious; then we lose the next three games...

yup...today Montana beat Eastern Washington...the same Eastern Wash. that beat UDub in every statistical category except the final score....if E.W.U can put up massive yards against them, I surely hope we can...

after todays showing, we will lose. they put up lots of points against nebraska. our def will be like against colorado. nonexistent. hopefully zach doesnt get picked for a td. our players on ST are not very good. how about using the starters for blockers. how about using another kicker. how about getting a new coach.
calbare
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Lode, you could say the same things about UW. Their D has been far worse than ours, their ST play is horrific, plus they have players hurt that could impact the game (not that I want that, but it's reality). I honestly think it will come down to turnover differential - the winner of that wins the game.

U Dub looks like a classic Pac team: high-powered offense and a crappy defense. As long as we can get another 55% performance from Zach with no more than his usual pick, okay OL performance, and our WRs can catch the passes that hit them on the numbers we should put up 35+.

Our D is good but should still stuggle against their skill players. Kearse and Polk have killed us in the past and should do so again. Looks like a shootout.

Yes, and the sheen of that home win against Hawaii has come off now that the Rainbows got blown out by UNLV... they truly are putrid when off the islands.

Sark has our number and I'd expect UW to be at least a TD favorite if Price is healthy.

What concerns me is the Ref's and their "Home Cooking" up there next weekend. I believe that our Bears can get it done. Roll On!

One thing UW showed yesterday is that they keep trying. Down by 20 on more than one occasion, Price kept firing, even when gimpy, and they kept moving the ball.

Price is nimble and has a quick trigger - something that has given us trouble. Their WRs are good although none is a Richardson (the FR Haseem? is a player). We are going to have to play press D and give the front 7 time to get to Price. If he is hit hard, his mobility may suffer dramatically.

Polk showed signs of being a weapon, although NU played the run very well. I think we are at least as good there.

Their D is not good and is a little banged up. NU ran mostly vanilla stuff and moved it at will. ZM will have to be more accurate to match Martinez, who won it for them. We don't have a back equal to NU's Burkhead - powerful and reasonably shifty - so look for more motion, trapping, variety.

We will be behind at some point in the game. What we do then will tell the tale. If we compete to the end, we will win by 2 on a FG in the last minute. Look for BB to make a difference.

Go Bears.

Add the weather factor. Rain may make us use more running plays. Now with Bigelow, that might actually give us an advantage in the running game.

We traditionally get beat by back-up quarterbacks, so don't know how much of a factor that will be. Can't let them put up hundreds of yards of passing against us like the Buffs.
