hoffpauir plays fullback too, so hopefully he ends up there instead of safety, but you play the kid wherever he shows more talent and potential. landing hoffpauir doesn't prevent us from landing Bowman if he decides he wants to come here, and Bowman is gonna EE wherever he decides to go. he wants to play early and has said continually said that is the biggest factor, and he is high on both SC and Cal. we'll see, but either way, welcome to Cal Zach!

Zach will be playing baseball as well, just like Jacob Wark, and he seems to have a little bit of smart, tough, two-way white guy like Owen Marecic in him.

and who the balls is Scott Schrader?

I am pretty informed when it comes to JuCo, I havent heard much about him since the season started, but last I heard was that he was really feeling SC, tooko multiple unofficials during thier camps.

Congrats Zach!
I had no idea who this guy was but I do like his film.
Hopefully he can provide some quality depth behind Shaq and Avery!

Really, he's on an official to UW this weekend? If that's so, we need someone at the game watching his reactions to the action. Maybe film him and then synch up the game film picture-in-picture.

I only slightly kid, because that would be awesomeness.

Congrats Zach, and welcome.

for the Nth time......Tedford doesnt switch kid's positions. If this kid was recruited as a Safety then he'll play Safety.

Also, it's not a good thing when a scholarship player generates talk of being a "special teams player." Just say what you really mean hahaha....others definitely share that opinion.

I thought Allen was recruited as both S and WR, and that Tedford has stated that he could play S at some point.

I don't know enough about the others to comment.

The point is that Tedford doesn't switch players to other positions against their will.

Hagan was more than happy to move to TE to go from being buried at wr to way up the depth chart at TE. Keenan wanted to play WR. That's partially how Cal got him. Conte was happy to move to safety. He wasn't likely to play nearly as much at corner and had one last season to prove himself for the NFL. Kendricks wasn't recruited as either an inside or outside LB. He said from the beginning he'd play where he fit best.

who said anything about against their will?

That was the implication of the OP's statement about moving players unless something led you to believe that Hoffpauir would be okay with being a fullback and special teams player instead of a safety, where he was recruited by Pendergast and Ambrose.

we'll see. you're right that he is being recruited as a safety, but the kid can obviously tout the rock, he likes contact and sticking his nose in there, and he has ball skills. the competition at safety might be stiffer than at fullback, and if he wants to play early he might want to go with the position that we haven't pulled in a bunch of highly rated recruits at. he can still play on special teams (see Kapp, Will) and blow guys up there, and it's not like fullbacks don't get to hit guys more than safeties do.

kline knows the numbers he has put up on offense and when he finally does talk to him (they've never spoken before), i know that zach is gonna be in his ear about playing some fullback. the defense has been getting the bulk of the ballers the past two recruiting classes - this year it's the offense's turn.

i know you're going to argue that it's unlikely and since ambrose and clancy are his recruiters he is likely to play DB... whatever, that's fine. i'm just saying we'll see what happens when he gets to Cal.

and i wasn't trying to say that JT would move him to fullback against his will. i'm well aware that all the players who switch positions are willing to do so for the good of the team (including the players i listed earlier, whether they volunteered or were steered in that direction), and that if they moved players against their will some players would definitely be playing other positions. but the coaches aren't the only influence in play.

If he gets to Cal and decides he wants to play fullback, that's a totally different equation and I'm sure there'd be room for him there, if so.

Set'em straight MB .... all this worthless speculation is well..... worthless. The kid can play and let him play

For conte, was CB his position of choice coming into Cal? I remember he was a stud safety in HS, and i was surprised he played more CB leading up to his senior year
jesterno2
How long do you want to ignore this user?
that was my typo actually. conte was a S prospect and got moved to CB, not necessarily against his will, but moved nonetheless. they fixed it by moving him back to S his senior year. as a Cb he would've been an UFA. as a S he turned out to be a 3rd round draft pick.
GinsuBear

I believe at the time Conte wanted to play CB and our depth at CB was lacking. So it was a mutual decision for him to move positions. However, seeing him play CB as well as nickel, I always thought he'd make a better S. I'm glad he did make the switch his senior year so as to have his shot at the NFL.

From MB's commitment story:

Quote:

"I think we're going to be really good," said Hoffpauir. "I think Shaq Thompson's coming in, too, and I know our quarterback, Zach Kline. He's really good. There's lot of great young talent there and I know Coach Pendergast will continue to work with the defense and get them on point.

Kline should probably concentrate on learning the playbook instead of telling his teammates what position they should play.

The kid clearly wants to play both football and baseball. He is an outfielder and is believed to be a pretty darn good baseball prospect. He will no doubt lose his speed and quickness if he has to gain 30+lbs to his frame (5'10") to play FB.

His grades just took a nosedive after choosing us over UCLA. :p
