Okanes is spot on for the most part. I disagree about Marv Jones being a possession receiver. He's had a lot of big, stretch-the-field type of plays over the years.

Agree with your sentiments. Okanes has just about everything right except calling MJ a possession WR. He called KA "fast", which may be a bit of a stretch, yet MJ is almost certainly faster.

Quote:

[Marvin Jones] usually always wins a 50-50 ball against a defensive back.

...what.

Otherwise, largely on point. I don't consider Jones to be that great a deep threat, so I don't take too much umbrage with the "possession" receive bit. Maybe my memory is foggy though.

going 2-2 over that stretch would be pretty nice. If we beat the pups and the featherheads, losing to the weed puffers and spoiled children, we'd be 5-2 heading into a stretch with the southern branch, the resurgent (I can't believe I really just typed that :rollinglaugh cougs, and the more-hapless-looking-than-usual buck teeth.

Yes, the next 4 games will be very interesting to watch indeed!

Yes, Jones has the great ability and tenacity to get those 50/50 bombs and come down with it. Remember that ASU game last year? He's definitely more than a possession receiver and he can do all the routes. My only concern with him is the dropsies, most of the time happening on balls he should catch (critical drops in the Nevada and Arizona games last year, some lack of concentration on easy balls this year). That said, I hope he and KA light up UW.

I'm not sure why we all seem to be conceding the SC game at home. They're not that good this year. They weren't all that good last year either.

But this is exactly why we lose to them -- we give them way too much respect. You could see the fear in our players eyes and body language -- like in the first quarter last year! You have to have that Bethea swagger against SC, heck any team. It's also a home game and we will really need to make AT&T rock that Thursday night. Because they are kind of far away from the action, it will not be all up to the students, either. Everyone has to get up for that one, to help our players shake off any intimidation of SC.

I don't concede any game. But if I had to, the only one would be the @Oregon game and that's because it's in Eugene. Other than that (and I'm not saying we should concede that game either, but I find that the toughest game), all the games are winnable (and "loseable"). I reserve the right to change my mind if we get taken to the woodshed on Saturday (which I don't think will happen), LOL.

Teams that have beaten USC and the number of times in parenthesis since we last beat them. We, Arizona State and WSU are the only ones that have failed to beat them.

Stanford (3)
Oregon (3)
Oregon State (3)
Washington (2)
Arizona (1)
UCLA (1)

First off, we're fans, not players. I think you're conflating the two here. Whether the players/coaches fear them too much is another subject (albeit an interesting one). But if I as a fan delusionally fear U$C (which i don't, but for the sake of discussion) I don't think that has any bearing on whether Cal wins that game.

And just to clarify, I'm not conceding any game. Nor am I writing "Ws" over any future game yet either. We could very well beat both $C and the weed puffers. I just don't think that's likely. We could also lose to both UW and Utah. But right now I'd say that my level of confidence is as follows:

Not super confident: UO, U$C, 'furd
Tossup - I like our chances if we play well: UW, ASU, Utah
Pretty confident: OSU, southern branch, Wazzu

The only reason I put $C in the first category and not the second isn't because they look like world-beaters, but rather because we don't either. I think the Bears have every chance to show up and win that game, but I'll feel better about it when they demonstrate the ability to slow down a good QB/wideout combo, and not get gashed on the ground in the process.

This weekend in Seattle would be a good time to start the demonstration.
