Tough not to punch it in at the end and questionable decision by Gould not to get CJ in the game.

But still there is much to build on from today despite the loss:

  • Once again we came from behind to take the lead. This is something we had rarely seen in recent years but has been accomplished multiple times already this year against Fresno, Colorado and the Huskies today.

  • Maynard still plays with lots of guts; not as efficient and consistent as we may eventually see but no question he is a playmaker. Big improvement over the past few years.

  • Isi actually ran well today and made some nice plays.....just wish CJ had been in for the last sequence.

  • The defense looked very poor in the first half but played much better in the second half. Still tough against the run. Our OLB play is a big issue but improved as the game went on today.

Say what you will but I think the glass is still half full!

Agreed, tough loss today but thought the team played well & showed heart. The next test will be to see how the team responds the next few games.

Everyone is bagging on the decision to leave Isi in the game. CJ had 9 yards on 7 carries today for an average of 1.3 YPC. Isi was 5.6 YPC.

I think at the end of the game you go with what got you there. Maybe they should have given it to Kapp. Maybe they should have lined up with three tight ends. But CJ apparently was not the answer today. Hard to blame Gould for not putting him in based on the way the game was going.

This was an exciting game by the Bears. I see Washington as a pretty good but not great team, and they seem to be well coached. This was a game the Bears could have and should have won- it seemed like we won the line on scrimmage on both sides - we held Polk to 63 yards and the offense seemed to be able to get a push most of the time. The Bears should have converted two of the field goals to TDs and the last drive to a TD, but they will get better at that. Maynard is getting better every game and is an exciting player, although today he just made some mistakes that in the end cost us the game. But over time he will whittle those away and be very good for the Bears.

Looking forward to seeing what they do on the road in Oregon - that will be a big test of the Bears resiliency. I think they are beatable, but it will be difficult. I bet McCain starts. Really looking forward to supporting the Bears back in AT&T on a thursday night.

3 points in the 2nd half. It should not have come down to Cal coming from behind. Players played hard. Outcoached, outcoached, outcoached. Oh, did I mention outcoached?

* Missed catch by Allen with a lob from Maynard for the 1st down.
* Missed catch by Sofele when the ball hit him in the numbers which would've been a first down.

Both of those came late in the game, were very catchable and were very costly.

Thank you. And Allen dropped a perfectly thrown pass near the end of the first half that might have scored; however, he caught the next one on the ensuing play and took it to the 15 prox for the first, resulting in a FG.

Dropped passes...good grief....against a clueless "one-legged" UDub team that doesn't play defense.

I would like to see us have a "jumbo" package for short yardage situations. Maybe Moala as one TE? Isi could pick up the needed few yards after Tiny clears the way.

In any case, we need to be more creative. Oregon, Stanford, and now Washington are all out scheming us.

Since Kapp missed a key block in that last series, maybe they should have given him the ball instead of having him block.

"outcoached." There is a tendency on the board to see EVERYTHING as the fault of the coaching staff. Could there have been some plays (offense/defense) that could have been schemed better? Of course. But it also comes down to players making plays. UDub did more of that. While the talent level is fairly even between the 2 teams, UDub did have one significant advantage: While I really like Maynard, there is no doubt in my mind that at this point, Price is significantly better. The same mobility (even with a "bad" knee), but more consistently accurate--especially on the long throws. This can't be underestimated in a nip and tuck game.

Despite the loss, and my disappointment, I am heartened by the fight that this team shows in sharp contradistinction to more recent Cal teams that would have folded the tent at 21-10 and slunk away with a 41-17 or so loss. It is clear that Tedford trusts the offense more (he's gone for it multiple times on 4th down this year, for example) and is opening things up. Hopefully, this signals an upward trend.

You didn't mention "undercoached"....lol.

Hard to quantify and postulate, but picture Boise State as being "overcoached" and you'll understand what I'm talking about.
