Huskie who just beat us, are 10 point dogs @ Utah. The line has moved from 7.5 earlier in the week.

Based on their explosive offense, I would think they could take it to Utah, or at least keep it to within a touchdown.

Someone tell me what's going on here? Is Utah that good? Are we that bad? Are there known and unknown injuries?

Other than the TCU aberration last year, Utah is really solid in Salt Lake. Also, Utah is getting some points for burying a what-was-thought-to-be decent BYU team last week. Washington had some injuries last week too that are gone for the season.

I'll bet part of it is that Washington is 11-5 at home and 3-9 on the road under Sarkesian. Add in that Utah is a particularly good home team as well (including the effects of elevation), and I am sure that is part of the equation.

regardless of what a UW loss implies about our team... i am hoping that they get destroyed by Utah and their MUSS, and that UCLA beats the furd. im thinking rose bowl here :rollinglaugh:

The home field advantage is very evident in college FB excluding only the elite teams. Look at most colleges' home-away records.
I thought Cal was on a par with UW and the game shows that the teams were very evenly balanced. The difference was the fact that UW was playing at home in front of its own fans.
IMO if the game were played in Berkeley (not SF) Cal would have won.
I would expect Utah at home to beat UW since again I think that both teams are probably fairly closely matched.
I also expect that Cal has a good shot at beating Utah at home (I am not so sure about SF).

I'm hoping that UW is a different team on the road, as many teams are. We want things to be all mucked up, people beating each other for no logical reason. We need some parity!

Utah is in the Pac-12 South. UW is in our division. We want UW (and Oregon and Stanford, maybe even OSU and WSU) to lose all their games against the Pac-12 South.

I m rooting for the Utes and Ruins this weekend as well... No way Ruins win unless Luck gets knocked out of the game.

Yep. Intra-north division games (when we are not playing) are a zero-sum games for us (unless it's a team that's behind us beating a team that's ahead of us). We want the south to kick some butt against our other northern foes. Sucks that AZ and CU are both awful (although CU could upset someone at home) but ASU, SC, Utah and maybe even UCLA could do some damage.

3-2 last week, .500 for the season (17-17).

1. SC
2. BUFFS @ home means good buffalo
3. UW, that's a scary young team (price, asj, the Wrs)...
4. ASU
5. UCLA (prediction: OWA will sack Luck and knock him out of the game)

But UW is a better team this year and lost at hostile #8 ranked Nebraska by 13.

Utah lost to USC and barely beat Montana State at home.

They blew out BYU but BYU is overated. Heaps is still learning.

Tomorrow night I'm going to the UCLA-Stanford game and for maybe the first time since the 70s growing up in West L.A. will CLEARLY be rooting for UCLA without any misgivings.

Yeah, so udub beats us - therefore they are world beaters. They will clobber Utah on the road and push the furd and ducks hard for the North title.......

I think Utah wins at home against the curs......

I think it is that this is the first year of divisional play so it is taking some of us some adjustment in how to root for or against other teams after so many years.

I think Utah will win, but I'm not sure it will be a blowout (10+ points). I realize that Utah is a very tough place to play, but I think that Price has a lot more poise (and is clearly more intelligent) than Locker.

I see us hanging around until the 4th quarter.

I was way more impressed with Price than Locker. Price reminded me of a senior. The way he stepped up in the pocket was poised and becoming of someone more experienced. Heck, I haven't seen a Cal QB step up nicely in the pocket without getting all discombobulated since... well, I don't know. Dave Barr seemed to be the the last pocket passer who was good at that. I know we had Aaron Rodgers but he seemed to get the ball off quick (which was fine since he was so accurate) and he learned his "pocket management" poise, at Green Bay.

Locker was so inconsistent his whole career. But yes, I think for most of the P12, home games provide the added leverage to get over.

I wasn't taking a shot at you Tommie - just an independent thought..........

Utah is a first rate football program these days. They had a shot at upsetting USC on the road. I guess people don't think that much of UW. I'd take UW + 10 though. I don't see Utah shutting them down if Nebraska couldn't.

UW is legit until Price gets knocked out, which may well happen in the next few weeks. A QB can't last a whole season on bum knees.

Nice pick. That was quite the conceptual contrarian for me.

I initially would not have touched it with a ten foot pole, but you have to wonder about the lines on these new conference games.

Just like how JT game-planned not to lose to FSU, I imagine that some teams will fight for their lives in new certain match-ups so as not to lose, or at least to show up strong for the new conference.

Careful analysis of certain games might make for a big payday.

Why should we root for Pac-6 South teams to beat the North? For purposes of divisional standings, do all conference games, including interdivisional ones, count or only the five games within the division?
pappysghost
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I was wondering that too. Looking at the standings it seems only the games within the division count which sort of makes sense.

Right, so why not root for Northern division teams, particularly the ones we play?

How is that the case, and why would that make sense? Washington is 2-0 with wins over Utah and us. Utah is 0-2.

I thought all conference games counted towards the conference standings., regardless of the division of the opponent, unless they are specifically called out as non-conference games like our win at Colorado.
