Only saw part of the game but it looks to me like Haubaugh is instilling that winning swagger with the 9ers. It's a motivating style that few coaches can bring.

If that is the case, then Shaw is still driving the efficient machine that is luckford, but when the game gets tight, will they be able to respond? Stanfurd definitely doesn't look as good to me this year after watching a few games including against UCLA.

Their excution is still there. Luck is still luck. Their swagger and resiliance don't seem to be there but it has yet to be tested.

I hate Hairball just like I hated Monty when he was at Furd. But I always respected both of them because of their coaching ability. Now Monty is our jerk and I love him. You nailed it. Hairball is a winner and his attitude has infected the 49ers.

Shaw was at best third most responsible for that offense. He also has no personality. Furd wont make a bowl next season.

It takes a different skill set to turn a program around versus maintaining a system someone else set up. George Seifert did fine with the keys to the machine Bill Walsh built even though he was not half the coach. I would not sell Shaw short. As long as Stanford keeps the admissions standards they have had under Harbaugh, they will recruit well and Shaw is a smart coach who puts his players in a position to win. In many ways, Shaw is a better fit for Stanford than Harbaugh (and probably a better recruiter--I'm not sure I would sign up to play for Harbaugh)--though until we know about their next QB, I think your prediction for next year could be accurate.

If that's the case, then perhaps in 5 years after mediocrity at the pro level and a few years in broadcasting, JH becomes our new coach and takes us to our first outright pac-12 championship. Then again, Monty was career and stable at Stanfurd and JH was only there 3 seasons I think?
