With Lobbestael throwing the ball all over the place can our secondary keep up?

Wazzu is going to find it hard to keep Lobbs alive if they are going to throw 50 times a game.

Somewhere else on this board there is a report that 6 DB's for Buffs were out physically and one for family reasons. Two offensive players were used at DB.
And Buffs db's to start with weren't that good.

A WR and RB were allegedly used to shore up the Buff secondary (in addition to many freshmen) and march2397 is correct, they weren't that good in the first place.

Nevertheless, if Wazzu actually scares anyone here then I guess San Diego State should make you crap your pants with fear. SDSU hammered Wazzu a few weeks ago. We have glaring weaknesses when we play but let's not become afraid of our own shadows.....

GO BEARS!

Look at the bright side. We don't have a home and home with Presbyterian.

Good: Lobbestael will probably be back on the bench when we play them. Bad: Jeff Tuel is a better QB if healthy. WSU has made some strides toward respectability but are still pretty thin in quality across the board although that soph WR is one of the league's best.

No reason to be scared of them, but we can no longer dismiss them. I think it's actually good that Cal plays Wazzu later in the season. They have some talent now but still not much depth. It's no longer a sure win, and the Cougs will likely score some, but I think the Bears come out with a solid victory at home.

Agreed. We have no business taking anyone lightly.

If our game was in Pullman in November (read: possible blizzard conditions), I'd be concerned about an "upset special". But we should be able to take them at AT&T.

I'm not saying Wazzu is Presbyterian, but I'm gonna throw out Presbyterian as a school as an example of a school that we previously earned the right to not worry about.

I'm then going to say that worrying about Wazzu is unreasonable when, as someone pointed our earlier, they went down to SDSU, and we beat them close last year when we were away and had Mansion at QB which are two poison pills when it comes to Cal football success. This year we're much improved at QB and we're at "home." Even if Tuel comes back he'll be coming from a long layoff. Our D will hopefully have gelled by the time we play with the younger talent at LB taking over starting spots from Davis and Camporeale. I just still don't see myself worrying about the Wazzu game.

Yes, AND the rest of the league for the most part is in this same situation. A few exceptions of course: furd at home against fucla, a couple of duck games and that is about it. A lot of parity with teams bunched together with a lot of flaws.

I'd like to think the only time a college FB team can take any conference opponent lightly is if they have a dominant team AND have had one for a few seasons, i.e. USC last decade. Those teams are used to taking care of businsses and "handling prosperity".

Furd 2011 is not quite there.

They look scary considering how bad the Bears have looked against the pass defensively, but Wazzu doesn't have a strong running game. At least UW has Polk and CU has Stewart, who we had to respect. Without a serious ground threat the defense should be able to put a lid on their passing game.

As it should. On the other hand, as much as the "danger" from the WSU game has increased, the "danger" from the Oregon State game has decreased. This ought to be our first win vs. the Beavs in 5 years...
