I thought that was kind of a silly piece, in the sense that there's no accepted metric for how secret a team is, but with that said Oregon has definitely locked things down this year.

The first couple of years under CK were completely open, with the exception of some bowl prep and civil war week (which follows a longstanding tradition.) But since LSU gameweek practice has been closed, and it appears that's going to be the way things go from here on out.

Honestly I'm surprised more programs haven't converted to that mode of operating sooner.. the internet makes it really difficult to surprise anybody with new wrinkles and schematic ploys.

I think it's funny, btw, that Goe doesn't spend any time discussing the ways Oregon (and not just the AD) stonewalls public records requests and seems to have a, to put it mildly, deficient office for dealing with those inquiries.

closing practices (and not holding weekly press conferences according to Okanes) and following suit.

Personally, I don't see why practice should be open to the public anyway.

What? I don't see why they AREN'T.

It lets the fans connect and feel invested in the team more. See: Lindsay Gottlieb.

you'd open practices to the press and you'd hold weekly press conferences...at the very least. Tedford is a football coach so I don't really hold him ulitmately responsible for these horrible public relations f-ups. But someone in the Cal AD should lose their job given the importance of having a great, money raising program. If the new Pac 12 tv contract makes this kind of stuff moot well them I retract all of the above.

Thank you very much for articulating why I think this is the lamest "tofu" ( a non-beef beef) against Tedford. Open or closed practices are up to what works best for the coach, period. You want to see the team, pay for your ticket and show up to the game.

As BellotiBold pointed out above, in this day and age of the internet, information from practices becomes easily available to opponents. In particular, discussions of plays, formations, injuries, and participation. Given the amount of money involved in college football as compared to women's collegiate basketball - and the sheer unbridled anger that can follow a loss - it is dangerous for a coach to allow open access.

Tedford opening up practices may actually serve to confuse opposing teams as to which schemes we're gonna run.

I dont agree closed is better for the team. Counterintelligence is not what I want my hc worrying about.

Well if the coach closes practice, he doesn't have to worry about that.
