Some critical words from the 0-time Super Bowl MVP. Maybe Aaron just wanted to waited until he was good enough to win the MVP when he got there.

Favre is like a bad case of herpes. You just can't get rid of him. He's just going to show up and be an irritation.

I don't think he was really giving him a low blow treatment. Typically of Favre, he just says things that don't really make much sense until you put everything together.

Essentially:

1 - The team had good talent back in 07 during his last year
2 - AR is a good player in a good team
3 - Because of 1 and 2 they should have won sooner

Obviously he still feels slighted and the media keeps baiting him to be in the spotlight.

Favre needs to go away, along with the media who keeps pining for his unfiltered rhetoric.

Not only that but if the Packers had kept Favre at QB, Green Bay would have won the World Series and the World Cup.

Rodgers was goddamned lucky.

Insert any other QB in his shoes, and you'd have 3 rings by now.

Well, that's what I've been hearing all these years.

It's like Rodgers isn't unique, isn't special.

Just the product of a system and the people around him.

But when you really think about it, how many QBs have been as good as Rodgers the past 20 years?

Stuff doesn't just happen.

Here's the interview, by the way:

I've come to see Favre as something of a Rohrschach test for football fans. How you react to an interview with the guy or quotes is largely dependent on how you feel about Favre as he dragged us through yet another "will he or won't he" speculation.

Frankly, I think that Favre is actually complimentary of Rodgers as much as Favre can be. Favre is a bit of dick, but then again, how many people in this world have never been dickish? QBs of Super Bowl winning teams have to be willing to be dicks if they're gonna win the Big Prize.

I think Favre's lone Super Bowl win also occurred with the benefit of a very talented Packer team.

As for FiatSlug's point about championship quarterbacks having to be able to be dick-ish, is that really true? Has Rodgers been a dick? Steve Young? Troy Aikman? Tom Brady? Could be for all I know, but I'm skeptical.

I didn't say that any QB in particular was a dick. I only said that they have to be willing and able to be dicks. Reason being, if you're not willing to be a dick, then the other guys on the team aren't going to be motivated to perform at a higher level.

A leader leads, to be sure. But a leader also relies on his followers not wanting to disappoint said leader and wanting to perform at their highest level in order to achieve at the highest levels. Ergo, he must be willing to dispense some wrath: in short, he must be willing to be a dick.

No no, Brett Favre is a combination of Charlie Sheen, Jamarcus Russell and Ty Cobb (w/o the greatness). He should be villainized for eternity. If I were him, I would've gone OUT OF MY WAY to make AR feel welcome that first year -- to the point of even carrying his bags on the road. I would have then retired at the conclusion of AR's rookie season, offering to come back in a mentoring role the next year only at Rodgers' request, even if it were just to carry his bags again.

Aaron Rodgers went to Cal, for cryin' out loud: Go Bears!

I believe there were some incidents a couple/few years ago of AR acting minorly dick-ish, but I mention that with the qualifier that they were in the "FiatSlug vein" of good leaders occasionally acting dick-ish w/o even being close to becoming actual dicks.

Steve Young had his famous "we're getting killed this afternoon and I just got pulled" rant. That was dick-ish (again, in the FiatSlug context).

Favre just can't live with the fact that Rodgers has caused Packer fans to forget about a guy named Brett Favre. He also is having a hard time dealing with the fact that Aaron will likely eclipse him in Packer lore before his career is over.

this. favre is a wretched little insect who expected green bay to take decades to move on from his glory years. he undoubtedly would prefer the packers to wallow in failure for a long, long time, and should they ever compete for a super bowl, to be helmed by the 2030 version of trent dilfer with a defense that outscores the offense more games than not.

seriously, i don't know that there is a unit of measurement small enough to accurately gauge his class.

there are only two types of ppl who can't help but drool over Favre's every moment ... even he's touching himself in the Jets locker room on his phone ....

1 - John Madden
2 - redneck

He was fun to watch at his prime, then became a passive aggressive version of Ty Cobb (as another alluded) minus all the great moments, if you count game ending pick sixes or INTs as "great" moments

4 x 3 = 12. Done.

Meanwhile, the Scout Packers forum, which is the exact opposite of this forum in that they censor a lot of posts and restrict a lot of Packers-related threads, put up a thread on this yesterday in which the mod (or one of the chief guys defended Favre). There was a healthy discussion, but the mod decided to delete all the comments anyways and lock the thread.

Many who have been to the top have difficulty exiting gracefully. Some who come to mind, in no particular order: Willie Mays, Joe Namath, Joe Montana, Ken Griffey, Jr., Donovan McNabb. It was pretty obvious from the time he was drafted that Rodgers was perceived by Favre as an unpleasant reminder of his professional mortality. What I find curious is that a 1st ballot hall of famer still seems to need to make these awkward pronouncements that only make him look petty.

You have to understand that there are a lot of Viking fans on Profootballtalk, so the posts are somewhat skewed. The rational posters there and on this site recognized straight away that Favre's comments were NOT complimentary whatsoever to Rodgers. This was backed up by the number of players who bashed Favre and came to Aaron's defense.

Farve had something to do with that by going to play for Green Bay's rival Minnesota.

Yeah Brett, he should have won it the year before with so much talent. How many sacks did his super talented offensive line give up? If they didn't lead the league, they were damn close. I like Favre less than Elway.

Thert are different kinds of dicks. small ones, big ones, old ones, new ones, hard ones, limp ones, etc. I think Farve fits several different types!
