I believe Cornell is using him as some type of hybrid QB/RB. He hasn't thrown much this year, but appears to be getting about three rushes a game.
Disappointing I'm sure, for someone who transferred in hopes of starting as a senior, but at least he's getting a strong degree and is playing each game.

SMU is not a bad choice if Gilbert has to transfer, and I think he does if he wants a shot at a pro career. One thing everyone knows about June Jones is that he emphasizes the passing game.
I think it was a good move by Mack to give Gilbert an unconditional release. No problems for him in doing so (the UT fan base would riot if Gilbert henceforth played over either McCoy or Ash), and this gets an unhappy athlete off both the campus and the scholarship rolls.

It makes you wonder why Tedford gave him a scholarship in the first place?
