Well I think Sony and Motorola and in some instances Nokia were fashion statements in their times. Jobs made them in to modern pieces of art that anyone can own.

No, it was fashion but he just took it to a whole new level. Nokia and Sony were cool devices in a moment of but they lacked Job's vision in creating a brand and company that was by definition and systematically cooler than anyone else and whose products were coveted by cultish followers seeking status. Don't get me wrong-the devices are slick but they can be replicated and bettered, but the Apple brand can not.
