The dead horse has probably been beaten enough here, but I don't understand why the other is considered cheating. If it's a penalty, the refs should call it. If not, it's gamesmanship. Why do teams work so hard to conceal signals to combat "cheaters?"
I realize I'm in the minority on this board on the question of whether it was okay for Cal to fake injuries, but I can't understand how anyone could not understand why it's considered cheating. It's against the rules, and Cal did it intentionally. Isnt an intentional violation of the rules the very definition of cheating?
And the fact that it wasn't called by the refs doesn't change that, IMO. If anything, it makes it worse because it distinguishes it from something like deliberately taking a delay of game penalty.
I agree that Oregon fans are in no position to lecture anyone on issues of ethics, but you'll forgive me if I don't view "we don't cheat as badly as Oregon" as a very compelling justification for what happened last year.
We're Cal and we're better than that....at least we should try to be.
