I started coming to Cal games with my dad when I was around 5 (196), but the first coach I remember was Ray Wilsey. I remember standing outside the stadium at the north tunnel entrance waiting for the coach to come out on the balcony and speak. The Cal Band would come and change "We want Wilsey, We Want Wilsy, We Want Walsey, x x x we want Ray!

Started following as a casual fan under Wilsey, attended first game under Mike White 1974.

Football was awesome in the year 196, but it was even better in 197.

You only get 10 slots in a poll. My assumption was that more of of the posters here would have been from the past 4 coaches. Beyond that, I started lumping together to make things fit into 10 slots.

If I had it to do again, I'd have lumped Gilby/Mooch/ Holmoe into one group.

Got it. Also, having been there during Theder/Kapp, I think that paring would have worked just fine. Not much different.

We got a first down on the one after a pass interference call in the end zone. Two runs up the middle netted zero.

QB Randy Gold faked a handoff and rolled left. There was our receiver and one defender. Gold faked a pass and the defender dropped back to cover the receiver. Then, instead of running it in, GOLD THREW THE BALL. The defender knocked the pass down and we kicked a field goal.

Lost 7 - 3.

But the first game I ever attended was Pacific @ Cal, 1978. It was Theder's first year as HC.

My dad started taking me to games when Levy was head coach, but the first game I really remember was the 1965 Penn State game we won on a hail Mary pass at the end of the game. I was hooked for life.

Marv Levy (my brother's freshman year at Cal); then Ray Willsey (my freshman year).
