done. after the first game or two i was still willing to give maynard a chance. after 6??? this is just stupid fking stubborness on the part of JT. if he's not smart enough to figure out a change is needed, then he's not smart enough to be our coach. done.

Absolutely. I wish we could do it now to get it over with. Rece said our facilities would finally get us on a level playing field. What? We have plenty of talent. We have enough talent not to lose to $C 8 years in a row.

I say we stop making excuses. There's always something with JT these days. And yes, why would you leave Maynard in that long? And even in garbage time? JT's a good man, but he's lost it, the game has passed him by, he looks defeated and frustrated, it's time to end the relationship. We don't owe him anything. We don't owe him one year of the new memorial. He makes more than any of us. Thank you JT for all you've done.

Let's look for a new coach.

is his contract up in 2013 or 2014?

how much $$$$ is needed to fry tedford's ass & show him the door this year?

of course tedford will not get canned this season no matter what, but i'm just curious.

This.

I was guilty of feeling that we owed him a chance. I stand corrected. I like the man, but I am growing to loathe the coach. Better he leave now and I retain some fondness for his tenure. He did great things at the beginning of his run, but his glory days are long past.

Thanks PK. This is sad. But went through this with Ben Braun too. It's time for a change. But we're stuck! Yet didn't we think we were stuck with Ben as well?

The casual fans have already voted with their feet, and taking the gate receipts with them. Sandy will have to take a close look at that. I like Tedford personally, he's an honorable man, and a good soul. But he's lost something over the past 10 years; he's not the same coach.

...it was more than the fact that we lost, it was the way we lost that infuriated me because it just showed how incredibly uncompetitive we have become year in and year out. Don't think that Utah, WSU or OSU are "gimme games" at all the way this team is playing. That is why i believe it will be hard to get to 5 wins and I am not sure I can stand, having a son from Stanford, that I can take the incredible beat down that is coming in the Big Game.

I really do not believe we are that far from the Holmoe era and while we may not get to a 1 win season under JT, it is beginning to feel like those times again.

I think it's 2014 and the buyout would be large, probably 6-8 mill. It's not good.

Few millions out of couple hundred millions shouldn't be too much of change.

well sh!t, it's a lot worse than i thought. i guess tedford probably has a reason to sleepwalk and slack off for a few years with such a ridiculous guaranteed contract in place.

he will probably pick things up again in a year or two and actually start coaching again. :sarc:

KAB, I agree with you ...finally. I've never called for JT to be fired nor been super negative about him but MY GOD, our program is sinking the last several years..

JT's record against:

Sark 0-3
Kiffin 0-2
Kelly 0-3

JT has not beat any of these coaches over the last few years and was losing ground to Hairball when he left....he in NO WAY is worth the millions he is paid even if Nike is footing the bill......

I'm still in favor of seeing what happens next year once the better recruits mature and we are back in our real home stadium, but the likelihood of a turnaround (9+ wins) is looking more and more remote. If it doesn't happen JT needs to go.

This game was discouraging because of how much we beat ourselves:

-Maynard fumbled snap kills one early drive.
-Fumble and big loss on simple end-around handoff, followed by desperation heave for a pick/
-Marvin fair-catching (?!) on the 5 yard line, there goes that drive.
-After a good drive to maybe get us back into the game, Maynard throws an end zone pick. It was into traffic, with open receivers elsewhere, not that much pressure, and on FIRST DOWN. That's an unforced error.
-ANOTHER blocked extra point?!
-Unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after our only TD, WTF?
-Maynard forces the ball twice to kill 4th quarter drives, including one final INT on a sideline throw that frankly never should have been called.

I don't necessarily mind losing to USC. If it was a well-played game and we lost, fine. The problem is that it wasn't a well-played game (by the Trojans either), and we lost because we threw up all over ourselves and made it easy for the other team. The early JT teams, while they weren't always great, never did that. Compounding this problem is how many mistakes were made by the OFFENSE, the unit that is supposed to be the strength of a Tedford team.

it would be a gift from above if we could get a guy like harbaugh. i knew from day 1, JH was a winner and stanford would turn around with him at the helm. he turned around SDSU, Furd, and now the Niners...and he did that last one in like what, 5 games? JT has had 10 years...from terrible to good, and slowly back down again to not pretty.

there's only so many times a coach can say the same tired things to his team before they just start ignoring it, especially if those tired things don't end with wins. they stop believing and trusting the coach just like the fans. once you go down that route, it's very difficult to change that mindset. need fresh blood and energy to revitalize everyone and make them believe again.

just ask mike nolan, mike singletary, tom cable, etc. andy reid and rex ryan may be next to find that out.

I agree with KAB now as well. I do think, however, that we (well, not us, since we don't matter) need to look long and hard at WHY JT fell apart. There can be no doubt that he was an excellent coach 2002-2004 (and I would say 2002-early 2007), but something happened. If Sandy doesn't figure out WHAT that was, the likelihood that it will happen with the next coach is unacceptably high.

is throwing in the towel...this is not a good sign. But it's hard to put up a good argument anymore. As one Trojan poster asked...how many elite 11 QB's do you have on the roster? Implying, I'm assuming, that if they're really that good...why be so afraid to play them. I'm really hoping that the Maynard transfer was not an agreement or consideration on the part of JT towards Allen. That would not be good...especially when you have all this "talent" in waiting. That would strike me as a Pop Warner type mentality.."I'll play for you if my friend can play." I can't say that's what happened here...but I'm trying to find an explanation.

Whoever picked us ninth in conference seems to be quite prescient.

I am completely sickened by how this season has turned out and privately I have been one of Coach Tedford's most ardent supporters. He has been such an honorable man, doing things the "right way" in the face of massive in-conference corruption.

Still, this has become very painful. This game was unacceptable on so many levels. Why would Tedford's quarterbacks play so poorly and why would he stick with them so adamantly when it's become obvious they are sucking wang out there? Why isn't Tiny Moala playing more? These personnel decisions and in-game strategems just baffle me.

We have failed to win any clutch "make an impression" games (UW, UO, U$C), so even if we manage to stumble into a bowl game (unlikely) the mojo is gone, gone, gone and has been for some time. This season is already on the brink of being a failure in my book.

We desperately need to keep Tosh, or our recruiting continuity is going to go to hell in a hand-basket, and the S&C coach seems to be pulling his weight. I'm not quite sure what to make of Clancy's up-and-down D at this point.

Other than that, fire the lot of them, including Coach Tedford. And ban the MF**king U$C posters. F**K them.

It wasn't just Maynard, it was also fumbles & drops by the receivers, bad snaps, etc. It's one thing if the QB is bad -- Ayoob was bad, but at least the rest of the offense seemed to know what they were doing. The problem now is that QB is bad AND the entire unit takes turns making stupid mistakes; this isn't supposed to happen with a Tedford team.

Ursa - doesn't matter what happened; ultimately, performance rules.

She has to sit down with him and tell the truth. "I can't afford to buy you out, but your teams of late have hurt revenue, image and morale. True, you were promised 2 (or whatever) years after the completion of the new facilities and your contract goes until ??, but there has been a disturbing trend that continues despite your best efforts to correct it. The only thing I can do is ask for your resignation if we don't go to a bowl game this year. You could always offer it without being asked, being the honorable guy you are.

"Yes, we know about the tree-sitters and their impact on 2 years of recruiting, but the early JT would have found a way to overcome that. If you were in my shoes, how long would you put up with this level of performance?

"I could hire a HC guru to counsel you and give unbiased expert guidance, maybe Marty Schottenheimer or someone like that. No one would have to know. Who would you like?"

What does a guy do when he sees it slipping away, but can't bring himself to admit it and can't reverse the situation, despite his best efforts? Maybe go somewhere else and reinvent himself. This was his first HC job, after all. The perceived shame will diminish quicker than imagined.

YES....and lack of discipline is a coaching problem....coaches in control don't have a pattern of these behaviors...this is a rudderless team with JT at the helm right now...

However, I'm not sure that it'll work. He may refuse. He may start slacking off even more, particularly in recruiting. Essentially, unless we buy out the contract, the program is basically at a standstill.

It was written many times that that was a package deal. Bama didn't accept and that's why Allen decommitted.
