...while clearly not as important as picking who will be be the football coach at an academically mid-tier university like Penn State, we actually pick who will be the leader of the most powerful country in the world shortly. And did anyone see the Repub debate? OMFG....Rick Perry just....well he just Rick Perry'ed himself on live TV. I tell ya, the only thing Obama has going for him in 2012 is the Republican Party. And with allies like that, who needs enemies!!!

I still can't friggin believe the Republicans went for Fiorina over Campbell, he would have gotten a lot of moderate democrat votes and probably would have beaten Boxer.

Bush the Elder is a man of substance and he is the last Republican I voted for. Bush the Younger is an "empty suit" but I believe he is basically a good guy who was controlled by Dr. Strangelove. McCain is an empty suit, but a brave one. Even Republican accounts state that during the campaign when McCain went back to Washington D.C. to discuss the cratering economy he was completely intellectually overwhelmed by the discussion and literally never opened his mouth during the meeting. If you hooked up all of the Republican candidates during the debates to a lie detector, the arrow would be pointing to the truth side of the meter for Ron Paul more than any other candidate. Unfortunately the poor guy is wacky. Romney and Huntsman are gentlemen, seem bright enough, and are not full of divisive and hate filled rhetoric. I can see a reasonable person voting for either of them. The rest of the crew shame our Country and seem more fitting for a reality show or a special assignment gig on Hannity or O'Reilly.

Too rational and intelligent for the mainstream, I'm afraid.

I was HAPPY to give him some of the socaltownie family income to help him run...<br /><br />A) I NEVER got a thank you note or email even though it was a decent contribution.<br /><br />B) His switch from the governors to senate race just seemed opportunistic - as well as missed the different mindset primary voters bring to legislative vs. executive races.<br /><br />Sadly, I believe the problem for Republicans in this state is mired in geography. The Central Valley, economically, culturally, ethically, is SOOOOOOOOO different than the Coast. I don't blame folks from the Valley (or their close kin, the Inland Empire) for the disconnect with NoCal but it is clear is the gap is dauntingly large. If the party EVER hopes to be relevant it has to start grooming, promoting, and supporting politicians and leaders who "get" the Coastal urban environments - or reconcile itself to being a permanent minority for generations to come.

so maybe I'll learn something here...but I find Gingrich very smart and well spoken and he usually has a well reasoned plan for most every topic posed to him. <br /><br />Fire away, I really don't know much more about him than what I've seen on these debates and a very few interviews his given over the past few years.

The country was ruled by the same people for 50 years-moderates on both sides of the aisle be they democratic segregationists from the south or republican liberals like Rockefeller. There was a unified foreign and domestic policy with some quibbling over means. Even Reagan played the same game despite noise to the contrary. It no longer holds true-the divides between red and blue, democrats and republicans are severe and not likely compromised by the people in the middle. The debt crisis was a perfect example-talk about a self inflicted wound for no reason.
