I don't have a problem with the way he's been used so far. It seems that they're easing him into games. We're fortunate that our depth is such that we don't NEED to play him much. Let him get used to Division 1 ball and turn him loose next year.

BB is running in straight lines--and appears to be running a little scared. He's had some cut back avenues on his plays but he is either not seeing them or still tentative to do anything except run to a designated hole.

I've never seen a player laid out more times. It's Charlie Brownesque. He has something like 10-15 touches on the year and he has been absolutely blasted on all but a a few. He must be thinking "Damn, college ball is brutal." His straight path and lack of wiggle is setting him up for these collisions.

Hope he is toughened by this and not made gun-shy.

Agree. His other issue is that he is relatively slight at a questionable 180 lbs so when he does get hit, he goes down fast.

What generation system are you playing on these days KAB? All the cool kids knowto use Right Trigger or X button to accelerate these days.

If the playbook has been simplified, it's been simplified for everybody! Use your noggin.

Because I can't believe he believed Bigelow to be better than them regardless of the highlights. Anybody coming off an ACL is not your best recruit. You could write a book of assenine quotes by JT but that one has to be near the top. I expect Bigelow will be good but not as good as the others and not as quickly. I expect that Bigelow could get to the level Forsett was at some point.

Another ignorant comment. Why do you think you know or see what a head coach at the college level knows and sees? A healthy Bigelow in high school was absolutely explosive. He was faster than Best and Jackson at the same grade in high school. Unfortunately, he has been hurt. That said, it doesn't mean he wasn't an amazing talent pre-injury.

Finally, if you HAVE seen his vids, they are simply the best most people who watch football have seen.

I've watched quite a few highlights of high school prospects on You Tube. If Bigelow's were that great, they would have stood out. Mostly I remember a strong ability to sweep to the outside and go down the sidelines. I'll take another look. The runner that stood out to me is this year's Keith Marshall. Not to be confused with Byron Marshall, who has a strong interest in Cal. Jahvid Best's college highlights also stand out. I just think it's ridiculous to annoint someone your best recruit before they've proven themselves in college. I seriously doubt that Bigelow will prove to be as good as Best at Cal. I hope I'm wrong, though.
"A healthy Bigelow in high school was absolutely explosive". So what. They didn't recruit a healthy Bigelow.
Hopefully the best recruit debate will be made irrelevant when Shaq takes that title this fall. :woohoo
How cool would it be to land Shaq, Armstead and Diggs next Feb.

If it still too complicated, simplify it again so that more players can get on the field.

Yes, it seems the injury is still in his head and he's hesitant on the cuts. When he gets past that blockage, though... look out!

Considering that BB goes into the game in such a limited fashion, were I the defensive coordinator of the opposing team, I would inform my defense to mark BB wherever he goes once in the game, for the ball is probably going to him. That is what he is in there for. Not for fakes, not for blocking, but for catching a screen, or carrying the ball from handoff.
I suggest that this too, could limit BB's production at this time.

On Saturday, it is time to "release" all the War Dogs on the Cal team vs. Oregon State! My formula for a "can't be denied" win.

Oh wait, that already happens...

lol

We are predictable precisely because of the complicated playbook.
All the opposing defensive coordinator has to do is devise a scheme that
covers the small handfull of players that are executing the playbook from week to week. These days, that is very easy to see on film.

So you cover KA and Jones and maybe now you have to cover Sofele. You don't have to key on the TE or RB catching passes out of the backfield or the 3rd receiver because Maynard doesn't utilize those players. You most certainly don't have to game plan for any potential 2nd string play makers, because the will never come off the bench.

The complication of our O scheme actually makes it easy on the opposing D. The reason why we have any success on O is because we have so much talent that we often can succeed even when the opposing team knows what we are going to do. However against teams like USC, or anybody else half decent. That just doesn't work.
